I called the office this morning to ask a few questions about a deposit in my account and what my insurance had covered. I was transferred to the insurance department and believe I spoke with Jami Denny. Unfortunately, she was very dismissive and wouldn’t let me finish explaining my questions. When I pointed out that there was no need to be rude, I received only an “okay, goodbye” — no apology or acknowledgment. That said, Dr. Tara and the dental hygienist who worked on my son were wonderful — both very kind, patient, and thorough in answering any of my concerns. I truly appreciate their care and professionalism. I would still recommend Dr. Tara and her team, but I hope the office addresses the issue of customer service within the insurance department, as that kind of interaction can leave a negative impression on patients.
I have been bringing my daughter here since she was 2, and she is now 12. I do like Sam Owen’s, but his dad messed up one of her baby teeth. As time went on Sam Owen’s has done a good job. Our last visit they added a new female Dr, she is horrible. Very hateful and pushy. This visit the staff at the front desk was very rude. After coming here 10 years I don’t plan to come back because they don’t care about the people anymore only money. I too had a visit last week and they moved me with a different hygienist without asking me even though I have used the same hygienist for two years, even the hygienist was wondering why I wasn’t with her. My husband also comes here and they have treated him very rudely. I don’t know if the staff is all new, but they are running people off. So sad it has come to this.
I have taken 3 of my kids here for the past 4+ years for cleanings/treatment and have had no issues with Dr. Owens. My daughter (8) needed a crown and some fillings earlier this year and I scheduled her full-sedation after being convinced she would otherwise be traumatized without it by Dr. Tara. I called the office many times to have my questions answered regarding my insurance. I had requested to be sent an updated treatment plan once her dental insurance renewed, but never got it. I decided to listen to my gut and get a second opinion and I’m so thankful I did. My daughter has since gone to a different dental office for all of her treatments with no issues and no trauma. My 4 year old son needed to be seen for a cavity I spotted on his back molar. I scheduled an appointment giving Dr. Tara another shot since my son was already a patient here and my insurance for him expires next week. I was told FULL-SEDATION would be best for his FILLINGS to prevent traumatizing him. This dentist, Tara, pushes full-sedation more than any other pediatric dentist I have ever met. If a dentist had to convince you that anything other than putting your 4 year old to sleep will traumatize them for life then I encourage you to look elsewhere. Tara has awful bedside manner and her lack of skill with children should not be an excuse to knock them out to treat them. There are better dentists in the area. My new one treated my daughter 3 times and she didn’t even know she had a shot. That’s SKILL. I’m not sure who certified Dr. Tara or what % she is getting from full-sedation, but it’s wrong. It should be a last resort for a 4 year old in my opinion. That being said — the office staff here has always been condescending and rude. Dr. Owens is the only redeeming quality at this office. I hope they can make changes before enough catch on and grow tired of the up-charging and lack of humility/empathy that is necessary for a dental office to thrive.
