We stayed at Hometown Inn while driving home from Ohio to Florida. I spent a couple hours reading reviews on other motels in the area and was disappointed that even the higher priced ones had numerous bad reviews. Then I read the reviews on Hometown Inn, and I knew I found a good place for us to sleep for the night. The front desk clerks were very pleasant and said they had bought the place a few years ago, and have been fixing it up and renovating it. We were pleasantly surprised when we entered our room. It was spotless. The floors are laminate (no nasty carpet!), the bed was very comfortable, the sheets and duvet were pristine white, and the bathroom was very clean. We could tell that the new owners take pride in their motel and are working hard to fix it up. It was quiet and safe. If you’re looking for a clean, no frills place to stay at an excellent price, we highly recommend Hometown Inn!
They had good reviews on booking.com and for the price the place was great. The rooms were clean and modern. The place is dog friendly and you can't beat it for the price. I stayed there twice on my drive from Atlanta to Saginaw and back and will stay there again when I pass through in October.
This hotel is a scam, do not stay here! We made a reservation through hotels.com for 2 adults and 2 kids and received confirmation with a total due at the property. When I arrived, they said there was a $50 deposit that wasn’t mentioned previously, but I finally found in the fine print of my confirmation. The issue was they said I could pay cash and get the $50 back at checkout or if I used a card, I would only get $45 back because of the fees when they swiped my card twice. When I asked why they don’t just keep a card on file instead of charging and refunding, like every other hotel, they refused to answer. After I decided to eat the $5- I know better than to just hand over cash for a deposit with no paper trail- they informed me that there would be an extra charge per night because we had more than 3 people. There was nothing about that in any of my confirmations or other communication, and I very clearly booked 4 people so if that was their policy, it should have been reflected in the price at the time of booking. I had high hopes based on other reviews but instead, all of this feels like they’re trying to take advantage of people who are drawn in by the low nightly price and scamming them with made up fees and extra charges. Edited to add: Contrary to the owner’s claim below, there was never any indication in the fine print about extra charges of additional people. Attached are photos of all the information I was given, including the fine print that I read carefully, including the info about the $50 deposit that I acknowledged in my review. Trying to charge more for two children, which the policy clearly says are travelers under 17 and which were clearly marked in the reservation, is not indicated anywhere. Again, I say this hotel is trying to scam people.
