Scenario: my cat ate chunks of a plastic bag so I took him to vet. They recommended X-rays and lab work for total of over $700. I asked why X-ray since I didn't think plastic would show up on image to which vet responded that they'll be clues on image as to what's going on. $700 later they now want to do an ultrasound for $800 which would tell them what the X-ray has plus more. I asked why didn't you suggest ultrasound prior to X-ray since it'll tell you what X-ray has plus more? Answer: it's our protocol. Moral of the story: it's this hospital's protocol to milk pet owners for everything they've got rather than working the problem with your pet. Thanks but no thanks. I'll never come here again and will dissuade any friends and acquaintances I have from coming here. I should have looked up the yelp reviews before coming. Big mistake on my part.
The doctors are friendly and engaged, the vet techs are incredibly understanding and the secretaries are incredibly kind. This clinic cares and when I went in for a fairly routine appointment and found out my cat had a very serious urinary system problem going on, they were incredibly kind and allowed me all the time I needed to process. They gave my multiple options and pathways that fit my budget. 10 out of 10 recommend.
I really like bringing my cat here. I've always been able to go to the exam room with her, though they do take them to the back solo for vaccinations and microchips. I especially appreciate Dr. Menighed, who takes the time to calm my very anxious cat by petting her, holding her, and showing her the view out the window before beginning the exam. He has also been the most practical and honest vets I've had - instead of sending us for an expensive and stressful dental surgery for a cleaning (as another vet had suggested), he simply took the time to manually clean her teeth at a regular exam and get us a prescription for dental food. Him and the techs also do a great job explaining any medications and how to administer them. The only thing I would improve on is a way to see the price of services ahead of time, but they are always happy to talk about it while you're there. The prices in general are much better than clinics within Portland proper.
