I was so excited for brunch here but was gravely disappointed by the service and the quality of the pastries. First off, the parking in this area is terrible, especially because there’s construction and so there’s little to no street parking. You can valet your car for $12 plus tax plus tip if you are there for brunch. Second, it is borderline criminal to do counter service and then make people pick between tip options where the lowest option is 20%, especially when the service is terrible. We ordered pastries for the table and the pastries were cold and they don’t even warm them up for you. We then went and found our table, which had dishes from the prior group still on the table. I had to ask several times if they could clear the table so we could sit there and we waited so long to have someone clear the table that we just cleared it out ourselves. Then, when one of the servers came over to give us our water cups, I asked if he could wipe down the table and he 1) did not speak to us at all, and 2) seemed annoyed that I asked for a wipe down of the table. Third, if you have kids (especially babies), be warned that this place is mayhem on a Saturday and the restaurant is not built for strollers to easily maneuver through the restaurant. Please also note that the restroom does not have a baby changing table. Not very kid friendly. The kimchi fried rice was good.
Beautiful ambience. Lighting is warm and wonderful. Service is exceptional at the bar and within the dining experience. Staff are kind, very knowledgeable and attentive. I went for dinner and each dish was unique, so flavorful, and finished. My friend and I splurged on the white truffle risotto and we savored each bite with intention and joy. We had a delicious time. Thank you!
It’s unbelievable that we need to line up in the front and order standing while the tip options were 20%, 22% and 25%. Service is no where near the price. Service staffs had this condescending attitude. Food is good. Potato pancake is on the heavy side, recommend for sharing. Kimchi fried rice good. Favorite was French toast! Pastry was also great.
Not a pastry fan. That’s why I only give 4 stars on food. Although this would not be a reason I come here to enjoy the morning vibe. Came here many times. I think this is not my favorite place any more, but will still come back sometimes. An iconic restaurant in LA. République in Los Angeles is a culinary gem that seamlessly blends history, elegance, and exceptional cuisine. Housed in a stunning, historic building, the restaurant offers a lively yet sophisticated atmosphere. The menu is a creative mix of French-inspired dishes made with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, and the pastries are nothing short of legendary. Whether you’re there for breakfast, brunch, or dinner, every plate is beautifully crafted and bursting with flavor.
I recently visited Republique Café on La Brea. The food was good, and I tried shakshuka with chickpeas for the first time, which was interesting. However, I realized I prefer it without chickpeas—the tomatoes tasted almost like they were canned. It’s served with bread, which was fresh and plentiful. They also have a wide variety of desserts to choose from. Inside, it was very noisy and crowded, but sitting on the outdoor terrace was a much better experience—quieter and more enjoyable. Overall, it’s a decent spot, especially if you can sit outside.
Missing the Parisian vibe? You must give this restaurant a try. We tried the escargot, it was amazing! The supposedly complimentary bread came with a fresh butter for which we were charged. The strawberry tiramisu was decent too. Steak with veggies was little undercooked and rubbery for well done request. Overall good place, advance reservation recommended else you might be able to snatch a place at the bar
I loved it! Such a cool place in the inside. Charlie Chaplin’s house. So rustic and very cool architecture. If you have more than 6 people you need to book a pre fix dinner. That was a bit complicated since they charge for no shows so luckily we ended up with 6 people and called ahead the same day and they were able to seat us. We got about 6 or 7 dishes and 3 desserts. Plenty of food and it turned out to be like $80 a person. The baguette was delicious. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I’m not a duck person and that dish had great flavor though I didn’t eat too much of it because it was a little too rare for me. Our favorite was probably the pasta that had squash in it. It was really sweet but delicious. And there was another pasta dish that was good as well. They also served us complimentary soup. The basil was very strong on it. The strawberry tiramisu for dessert was light and delicate and not too sweet. The chocolate torte was good too. Also there were some celebrity sitings during our dining. We did this as an after work event dinner. It’s great for that, taking a client, a date or whatever this place is awesome. Def come here! Staff is super nice and very accommodating.
large portions and slightly salty but always a classic when in LA! must get their French toast - simple but so yum and warms the heart. busy on the weekends so come during the weekdays for no lines/short waits. got the soup, salad, and sandwich which I loved and was definitely full after the first half of the sandwich.
