This is a nice space :) there are big, open areas, that would be fantastic for various events. Through no fault of Anvil Centre, though, the area around the building is not the safest - there are groups of people, directly adjacent, openly doing drugs in the street. It may be because of Anvil Centre's close proximity to the skytrain.

Anvil Centre is one of those multi-purpose spots that actually pulls it off. Whether you're there for a museum visit, a dance class, or a community event, the space feels modern and well-organized. The New Media Gallery and the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame are tucked inside, which adds a nice cultural touch. Staff are friendly, and the building itself is clean and accessible. That said, it can feel a bit corporate at times—more like a conference centre than a cozy community hub. Some of the exhibits are hit-or-miss depending on when you go, and parking in downtown New Westminster isn’t always smooth. Still, if you’re pairing it with a walk along the waterfront or popping in for a workshop, it’s a solid choice. Great for locals and curious visitors alike.

A striking modern civic and cultural hub right in downtown New Westminster. Inside, you’ll find a mix of spaces: the Anvil Theatre (361 seats), the New Media Gallery, the New Westminster Museum & Archives, and even the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame. It also doubles as a boutique conference and event centre, so you’ll often see community programs, art shows, and business events happening under the same roof. The design is sleek and open, with lots of natural light. Downsides: parking in the area can be tricky, and some exhibitions are small compared to larger city museums. Still, it’s a versatile, vibrant space that blends culture, history, and community in one spot.

Nice art gallery, museum, and conference center in one building. If visiting, approach the visitors center, very friendly staff. They have art exhibitions, the museum is quite interesting and it's free, and run programs for yoga lessons and others. Highly recommended

Anvil Centre is a civic center.
