We began working with Matt Whitaker in February regarding a loan for our new build home. From the very beginning, we were upfront about my husband’s immigration status - he has his Social Security number but does not yet have his green card. We specifically explained this to Matt in February. We were told by a professional to list my husband as a U.S. citizen on the form since the green card was in process and he was married to an American. We were reassured that a letter could always be provided if anything were to come up. From February through July, Matt continued as if the loan was moving forward without any issues. Then, just three weeks before closing, Matt suddenly told us they could not do the loan because of my husband’s status. This should have been addressed immediately at the very beginning - when he asked for our driver’s licenses and passports, he should have also asked for proof of permanent residency and taken the situation to his manager right away. Instead, we wasted six months believing our loan was secured. This left us scrambling to find another lender with only three weeks before closing, which caused major stress and delayed our closing. To make matters worse, when discussing the problem, Matt was condescending, disrespectful, and even raised his voice at me on the phone (I raised mine too out of frustration & his lack of compassion). My husband had to step in to stop the conversation because of how unprofessional it became. Matt Whitaker showed zero compassion, poor communication, and no accountability for the mistakes that were made. His arrogance and lack of professionalism cost us time, money, and peace of mind. I would never recommend working with him.
