My back roofs had some moss growing and the insurance company recommended a roof cleaning. I contacted the Aspen Roofing and Joe gave me an estimate of $1560 for the service. I was surprised by the high price and the following is what he explained to me: "Definitely a fair question. A lot of online pricing comes from just spraying on a cleaner and leaving it on. We do things a bit differently, which is more labor intensive. We actually get on the roof and gently scrub areas before rinsing with fresh water and then applying a moss/mold/mildew cleaner. We will also clean all the gutters and flush downspouts out while we are on site. Because we are on the roof, I have higher overhead costs (workers compensation insurance, higher skilled labor who understand roofing systems, etc.) I hope that helps explain a little bit. I can certainly cut the cost by changing the scope, but the final product (the look of the roof) would be different. To answer your question about warranty- I would expect this treatment keep the roof moss free for at least a few years. We are treating the moss that is currently on the roof, but the actual chemicals do not have any lasting “preventative” properties, so I cannot offer a warranty on it. The shingles on your roof have lost their moss and algae fighting properties, so the best preventative measures are to keep up on cleaning and install other things like zinc strips which have natural moss/algae fighting properties." So I decided that Joe would do a great job and paid the first $400 ish to start the job. Then the day came, three guys showed up, one didn't even speak english I guess, because he turned me to other guys when I tried to talk to him. anyway, by the time I came back from work, they have disappeared and I assumed the work had been done. So the next morning I decided to check on the results. I took some pictures with a drone and found a lot of streaks and some areas that seem to need more work. I didn't know what to expect and maybe this is what is suppose to be like. Unfortunately I didn't have drone footages before the job was done. However I was able to find two cell phone pictures of the garage-side back roof and one for the main back roof taken by the house inspector before the cleaning (see the last 3 pictures). I sent over the pictures to Joe and asked him if some more work need to be done. He didn't reply. a week later, I received a automated reminder to pay off the remainder of ~$1200 and a kind request to give a honest review. So here it is. Overall, I don't have a good feeling, yet don't know what is missing here. Some good communication might help!

We’ve had Aspen out twice to fix long-standing roof & gutter issues. Their work was simply awesome - thorough, on-time and at reasonable cost. Aspen were really communicative while work was being done and when project scope expanded, they were able to get us in quickly to remedy the issues.
