Juniper and Bay is one of my go-to places for fine dining in the Perth suburbs. The vibe is cosy, intimate, and the food is stellar every time I've been. This most recent visit, we went on a Wednesday night for a special occasion and opted for a la carte as we were a group of 5 with varying tastes. Every member of our party was thoroughly satisfied. The menu had something for everyone and the food was cooked perfectly. I had the fish rillettes (which I mopped up with some of the extra bread for the table), barramundi and a tiramisu for dessert, which the kitchen had decorated for my birthday. The waitress also gave me a very generous serving of wine when she found out it was a special occasion! I've never had a bad meal here and will always recommend it to others for a special meal. The price point is also, I think, very good value for the quality of the food that you get.
Second visit for us to this quite special restaurant. This time we took my wife’s parents with us. We had prebooked and the greeting and seating was quick and efficient. It is a set price menu with changing dishes over the seasons. We had two courses and drinks. The starters were excellent, prawn bisque and scallops. Punchy flavour and beautiful plating. Staff were attentive and responsive and food came out very quickly. Mains were Filet steak, Roast duck breast and fish. All were tasty and well presented. Unfortunately both steaks were undercooked, rare rather than medium. We raised this with the wait staff but our concerns were not passed on. It was mentioned to the owner when paying and he immediately offered a refund on the steaks but we declined. Overall a very pleasant meal, let down slightly by the underdone steaks. We will return.
The degustation menu is a great option! The dessert we had missed the mark for me, but overall we really enjoyed ourselves. The biltong kangaroo was a standout. Such a good mix of flavours! They do that annoying thing where they force you to select no tip on the EFTPOS terminal, but first world problems I guess. Overall highly recommended and we would definitely go back.
We are so lucky to have this restaurant in our neighbourhood. The Atmosphere is great, very quiet and intimate. The service is exceptional not over intrusive. The food is complex using local produce with amazing taste. If you like tripe this was my favourite dish. Great place for a special occasion. You will need to book as the restaurant was full. Well done.
