I recently went through one of the hardest experiences a pet owner can face when my senior Yorkie, Sonya, was hospitalized with kidney failure. The care she received at the Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital of West Toronto was truly outstanding, and I am deeply grateful to the entire team. Over the years we have been to several emergency veterinary clinics in Toronto, but this hospital stands far above the rest. Even though it is a longer drive for us, it has become the place we trust the most. The quality of care is exceptional, and their prices are noticeably more reasonable than many other emergency hospitals in the city. Sonya stayed there for more than seven days, and during that time we met almost every doctor and specialist on staff. Each one was knowledgeable, patient, and incredibly kind. The reception team also deserves special appreciation for their warmth, professionalism, and constant support. They always greeted us with compassion, helped with every question, and made a stressful time feel a little easier. The consistency of care across the entire hospital was remarkable. Every person we interacted with treated Sonya with gentleness and respect, and they took the time to explain her condition and treatment clearly. I always felt that she was in safe, caring hands. I highly recommend this Emergency Hospital to anyone whose pet needs emergency. I genuinely believe they saved her life, and I will forever be grateful for the effort, attention, and heart they put into her care. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, and especially little Sonya, for giving her another chance!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Dr. Hewitt is an extraordinary veterinary specialist — skilled, compassionate, and deeply committed to her patients.** Dr. Hewitt has been my dog’s specialist for five years. We were first referred to her by our vet because Mü was suffering from severe anal gland impaction, needing weekly expressions. It was heartbreaking to see her in discomfort, and any pet owner who’s dealt with this knows how distressing it can be. When I first met Dr. Hewitt, she took the time to ask about Mü’s diet, demeanor, and overall health before examining her. She found her anal glands extremely full and gave me clear options: try managing it through diet first, and if that didn’t work, consider surgery. We adjusted Mü’s diet, and while results varied, her condition improved significantly thanks to Dr. Hewitt’s guidance. In 2023, during a routine checkup with a different vet (while Dr. Lyons was away), a nodule was found on one of Mü’s anal glands. It was the kind of news no pet parent wants to hear. We were referred to another specialist closer to home, but the experience felt rushed and impersonal — like an assembly line. Mü was simply labeled as “a possible tumor,” with little explanation or empathy. We then visited the veterinary school in London, Ontario. While the team was kind, I still felt uncertain and overwhelmed. So I called my vet and asked to be referred back to Dr. Hewitt. I was so relieved when she remembered us and welcomed us back with warmth and clarity. Dr. Hewitt is incredibly detailed and skilled. She calmed me down when I couldn’t think straight, helping me navigate confusing cytology reports and decisions. I trusted her completely. If Mü ever needed surgery, I knew it would be with her. The initial cytology was inconclusive, so Dr. Hewitt suggested monitoring the area over time. We returned monthly for three months, then extended to six. Each visit was nerve-wracking, but I always knew Mü was in the best hands. At the one-year mark, there was still no growth. A follow-up cytology showed no irregular cells. Dr. Hewitt diagnosed it as scar tissue — not a tumor. This is the difference a great doctor makes: someone who investigates the cause, explores every option, and walks with you through uncertainty. And if treatment is needed, she’s right there with you. I’m deeply grateful to Dr. Hewitt — not only for her expertise but for her humanity. Her staff is also wonderful, always kind and welcoming. Know that your pet is in good hands with Dr. Hewitt she cares for your pet, know that you’re in truly skilled and compassionate hands. We went to Veterinary Emergency to get a second option on our dogs injury. They were amazing and very patient with our dog as he is not the biggest fan of the vets. So perfectional and kind. They also gave the best gift ever letting us know our dog didn't nee a new hip but just pulled a muscle. All he needed was rest and rehab to help build up his muscle in the back end.

Our beautiful dog Zoey passed away last Monday afternoon at home. We contacted the vet in order to make arrangements for her. From the moment we arrived with her to the return of her remains was handled with the utmost respect and compassion by the wonderful staff. They handled all aspects with professionalism and care.
