Customer experiences
Aman Spa New York—solid, refined, exactly what you’d expect. This place is well done clean, spacious, and designed with that understated luxury Aman is known for. The massage was on point, no complaints there. My only issue? The music or ambient sound in the massage room. It just didn’t hit the way it should. When you’re at a place like this, you expect everything to be dialed in, and that part felt a little off. Other than that, the experience is exactly what you’d expect from a high-level spa in New York discreet, well-run, and no unnecessary frills.
2.5 stars Read this if you’re thinking of buying a day pass: I think the spa is only enjoyable if you are a guest or a member. Day pass holders get little access to amenities and each staff member has different information about it. If I’m paying an “access fee” I should have access to more than just the lockers. At similar spa/hotels/members clubs I’ve always had access to their gym but not here. I did manage to be invited to the pool but when I checked in I was told I’d only have access to the locker room and treatment room. The facial I had was fantastic and the specialist who did it was also a joy. Super knowledgeable, personable, and skilled. Enjoyed my treatment very much. That said I’ve had good facials at very nice clubs around the world and none of them were 700$ and I could use the gym, pools, and eat in their restaurants. Why offer a day pass if you’re going to have this weird lesser access system implemented. (If gym and restaurant access is included in the future I’d go return)
I am a spa enthusiast and received gift cards from friends to various spas in NYC, the Aman spa being one of them. My gift card was for $200, so I knew I would still have to pay in order to get a treatment but have been wanting to check out the Aman spa so had no problem with that. I called to make an appointment and was shocked by the policy they have implemented for people who have gift cards - in order to use the gift card, you are required to both purchase a spa day pass ($175) and book a 90 minute service (starting over $450), which with taxes and fees comes out to over $700. This is just to be able to enter the spa to use a gift card. I asked if I could just use my gift card towards a spa day pass, to which they said no. I have been to hundreds of extremely high end luxe spas across the world and have never heard of this policy. I also couldn’t find any language around this policy on the gift card disclaimers or Aman website. It’s bizarre that you cannot even use a gift card unless the minimum you spend is $700 (this is the exact amount the spa associate told me on the phone). Anyways, I also had a gift card to the Mandarin Oriental Spa so I used that instead and had a great experience (and wasn’t required to follow any bizarre rules).
So- good and bad about the spa: Good- Their robes were very long and comfy. The massage itself was decent. There is a separate sauna and steam room in each locker room. Locker rooms are good sized and comfortable Each treatment room has its own bath and toilet which is awesome! Bad- It’s a confusing to get to the actual spa. You have to take 3 different elevators The spa itself is built very bizarrely and inconveniently. You have to check in/out on the 11th floor, then go to the treatment room on the 9th floor and for amenities you have to go to the 10th floor. They never gave a tour of the spa or explained anything properly. There is no relaxation room or at least they never told us about it so no hangout or unlimited tea and water A lot of time gets wasted in going up and down the floors and it eats into your treatment time She started the massage without any towel or wrap for the hair. At the end of the massage all my hair was drenched in oil. It was a gift for my moms birthday. I asked them to do something special and they basically said to take a hike, nicely tho. Also, it’s super priced with the $175 day pass that is mandatory.
Bathhouse Williamsburg is a sauna.
