Better Builders

After 25 years, the upkeep on our wood deck was beginning to become overwhelming. We came up with a design for a new deck that would be approximately 20x32 with half being a screened in porch and the other half being open to the elements and able to support a new hot tub. We contacted a couple of different companies in central Iowa, one being Better Builders. Our initial meeting with Keaton was very productive. Although we kept our initial design, Keaton gave us several ideas, some that we used and a few that we did not. The showroom made the decision-making process much easier. There were examples of everything we needed so that no part of our project would be a surprise. Not only were all of the products in every color on display in their showroom, they also had completed decks that we could look at. All of the top brands of composit decking in every color were on display. Railings, screens, porch designs, feature walls. They even had all of the framing material options there for us to look at. After we made our decisions, we were given an approximate starting date and also a general idea of how long the process would take. Our project was completed on time, and my wife and I could not be happier. Matt, our project manager, ended most of our conversations with, "do you have any questions or concerns?" He was always quick to get back to me if I did. We also found the owner, Demir, to be very friendly, professional, knowledgable, and attentive to our needs. I even caught him one morning walking around under our half completed project, picking up a few nails and organizing a couple of boards that were laying around! Now, here we are 6 months after our porch/deck was completed, and my wife and I could not be happier. With our old deck, we constantly found ourselves coming inside as soon as the bugs came out or the weather wasn't cooperating. Our screened in porch is more of an extension of our home, and we find ourselves using it every day. One of the things we had never initially considered were the Infratech heaters in our porch. Once we saw and felt them in the showroom, we knew it was an option that we wanted. It can be in the 40's outside, and we're comfortable on the porch watching a football game. I've always been a DIYer and it's usually difficult for me to turn things over to others, but I would not hesitate to recommend Better Builders. We had Better Builders complete a deck addition for us, and they absolutely exceeded our expectations. Demir and his team are very professional, knowledgeable and have a great reputation for quality which sets them apart from other contractors. Their communication from start to finish was excellent. We received regular updates from Demir and Austin and our questions were answered in a timely manner. We really appreciated the detailed renderings of the project during the planning so we could see what the space would look like. We live in the country so wanted a solution that would keep out the dust but also still have the outdoor feel of a deck. Better Builders was able to find a window product that completely delivered and we couldn't be happier with the windows! I can easily open the space up to the fresh air (with no bugs!) and close it up to keep it clean. With the heaters, we will also be able to use the space most of the year which makes it a huge addition to our home. We spend most of our time on our new deck and wish we would have done it sooner!

Our old wooden deck needed replacement, and we chose Better Builders. It was an excellent experience, from start to finish.
