Customer experiences
A tiny little place right along the main street. It does have a convenient drive up window on the street side. In business since 1947 it is built quite a following. On my visit there is probably three or four cars in line all the time +6-8 people at the window. The service was good. The milkshake was plenty thick enough and the french fries weren’t cooked as much as I like them, but they were still tasty. This is a kind of businesses built on the backbone of America.
Have you ever been to a Tasty Freeze in the Midwest? It's JUST like that. I'm quite shocked that every condiment was an extra 75cents extra. Had the Sloppy Joe, mushroom bites, mozzarella sticks, sour cream & chive fries and a pizza burger. Honestly, the Sloppy Joe and the mushroom bites were worth it. But the mozzarella sticks(3) weren't even melty, like it was just a solid stick with hot breading. The pizza burger wasn't something to write home about either. Another thing, why is a large pop $2 but a large soda is $3.50? Southern tourist up-charge? 🤷‍♀️
We wanted to try the famous Butte Pasty brought to the area while we were in town! We were not disappointed! The Pasty was brought to the area by Cornish mine workers. Outside seating or take away only but we also saw they deliver! The Root beer Float was delicious too!
I had great food & experience, but I will focus on just one thing: this places serves beautifully made traditional ice cream sodas with REAL FRUIT syrup. These are very hard to find in this region. The staff are a bit confused when you order it, but there’s def instructions in the back. They were perfect, and really let the ice cream do the sweetening, so it starts mild, lightly sweet & transforms as the ice cream melts. On the syrups, I’ve made them homemade, these can’t be purely that, the cost would be much higher, but I would guess they use both flavoring & chunks of fruit. Plenty of strawberries got caught in the straw (part of the experience!) and the 2nd night I bought two ice cream sodas for myself, and I did catch a raspberry seed in my partial, again that is GOOD. Freaking delicious, tbh I may never eat anywhere else in butte lol.
Bonanza Freeze is a hamburger restaurant.
