Bonnie Slotnick Cookbooks

a nook of a bookshop located on Bleecker Street, nearish to Bowery. it's a cozy spot filled with used books that are well-curated from floor to ceiling. while the store is a little cramped, the books are organized well and fairly easy to see/identify if you are looking for a particular title. there's a good range of books from mainstream ones to more uncommon tomes. i stop in here occasionally and haven't had any luck yet finding books that i am searching for...but i remain confident that i'll make a hardcover purchase here soon!

Small bookstore with plenty of used titles. There’s some $1 books on the sidewalk. The book I got was about $9. The lady at the counter was nice to me.

I’ve visited here about four times over the past few years. The most recent visit (January 9, 2025) will be my last. While the collection of fiction and philosophy is strong for a small space, I can’t get past the rudeness of the staff. When I entered on this visit, I was carrying a large paper shopping bag. Knowing that some retail shops require bags be left at the counter, I asked if I needed to do so. The woman at the desk was visibly displeased with being distracted from whatever she was looking at on the counter and muttered “No.” No eye contact, unhappy facial expression. When I looked back a few minutes later, she was busily using her phone. I wouldn’t have dared ask any questions about books or pricing after that brief encounter. When I was here once during the pandemic, an employee had a conniption fit when I briefly lowered my mask to blow my nose. Save yourself from having to deal with these pretentious jokers and go to the Strand instead. Folks there are still arrogant but the inventory is much better.
