Customer experiences
I can’t speak for authenticity, I can only say we enjoyed our meal here. We shared a Momo platter (three each of pork, chicken, and veggie). My wife had a really interesting, delicious Thukpa noodle soup, and I had a lamb curry with rice. I definitely rang the gong on the way out.
Disappointing Experience – Not Authentic at All We were genuinely excited to support a Nepali restaurant and were looking forward to trying Northern Himalayan Cafe in North Bay. Sadly, the experience was a huge letdown. The food was far from authentic — they pretend to be, but it's clearly not. We ordered Jhol Momo and were shocked to find it served with what seemed like chana tarkari ko jhol — nowhere close to the real thing. The Chilly Momo was just fried and tossed in soy sauce, no flavor or spice that resembles how it's actually supposed to be made. To make things worse, the Sweet Lassi had a strange smell — almost like detergent, and the Aloo Chat? Let’s just say calling it chat is an insult. The Veg Platter priced at $20.99 was a total rip-off — bland, overpriced, and poorly presented. Honestly, I don't blame the cook — I blame the owner. The owner should first explore other Nepali restaurants, create proper recipes, and ensure their team follows them. Without that, it’s just disappointing food served with a fake label of “authenticity.” The ambiance was good, but good ambiance can’t make up for terrible taste. Please don’t waste your time or money here unless you want to leave disappointed like we did. We walked in happy, wanting to support a fellow Nepali startup — but walked out completely let down.
Amazing food and very friendly staff! We had a shareable platter, chicken chow mein, and momos
This restaurant was truly a little gem we found when traveling through North Bay, Ontario. It was a nice way to finish our road trip. We were there during non peak hours, so the restaurant was not busy at all. Service was great Waiting time was reasonable. We could tell all the dishes were made fresh to order. Foods were authentic, and they all had unique tasty flavors.
