This was my first time here and I came mainly for a chest xray. The receptionist and the nursing assistant were wonderful- polite, pleasant, professional and helpful. I cannot say the same for the PA. She was abrupt, unpleasant and somewhat demeaning. She explained nothing and seemed totally disinterested. She said she was prescribing a cough syrup and prescribed tablets, not a problem but would have liked to know that. Most disturbing was that she added new and incorrect diagnoses in her writeup based only on her brief conversation with me. My BP was high initially and I felt she should have redone it later to get a more accurate reading. I would give the receptionist and the nursing assistant 5 stars. The PA one star. She could use some patient interaction training. Thank you for asking for my input.

We always have a good experience at AFC urgent care. We haven’t been to the Waltham location before, but they were every bit as friendly and as efficient as the other locations. Each person that greeted us was friendly and smiling. They made it very easy and very comfortable. That’s why I continue to bring my kids to AFC urgent care over and over again.

Overall a fair to good experience. I needed to schedule a physical and testing to get medical clearance for upcoming treatment at Nuvia Dental Center, which is on a fast track due to deadlines/upcoming seasonality at work. Having recently moved across state lines and switching health insurance, I did not have an established relationship with a PCP that would take my insurance. I was referred to AFC Waltham and specifically told that they do all the necessary testing and examination - they know what testing Nuvia needs done. Armed with this information, I went online to make a reservation. I could have gotten in the same day, but was running late for work so I opted to schedule for the next day. I specifically put in the notes for the reservation that this was for an exam and testing to get medical clearance for treatment at Nuvia. Front desk staff, intake, and attending all were unaware of what that entailed. TO BE FAIR, it sounded at Nuvia as if theirs was a new relationship with AFC, and it is possible that the AFC weekend staff was unaware of the new procedures/process or Nuvia's specific needs. The good (Five Stars): I was able to get in the next day. Their online reservation system is just that, not a guaranteed appointment time, but basically a heads-up to them that I would be there. I was seen very close to the time I had requested online. Front office and intake staff were friendly. Intake was typical and easy enough (Vision check, medical/rx/allergy history, & vitals). The exam proceded and the attending ordered a manual re-take on my BP as I stated it appeared higher than usual for me. In the end, I was given paperwork that stated "no contraindication to dental treatment", but I am prepared in case Nuvia comes back and says they need further testing done (I'm sure there's some sort of bloodwork involved), as none was done at AFC given the apparent break in communication. The rest (Minus One Star): Although it's literally pasted on the front window that they accept insurance, I was not given that option. The only option available to me was to pay out of pocket. (Honestly, the $85 wasn't that bad, I'll end up deducting it on my taxes this year, and it probably would have been subject to my deductible anyway). The attending displayed a no-nonsense attitude, which is fine in and of itself. However, she was curt, and appeared annoyed to no end that I wasn't given any paperwork by Nuvia. She knew nothing of the arrangement between Nuvia and AFC that I was told about, specifically saying "that is the fault of the dental office", not even entertaining the possibility that she may actually be unaware of their arrangement. Overall, I would go there again. While their office is local to Nuvia's, it is over an hour drive from my home. I'd say it's a good option for a basic physical exam, although their paperwork disclaims to the effect that is '... not to be considered a complete/comprehensive examination' due to lack of documentation of the patient's medical history. Fair enough. I will be following up with Nuvia on Monday to ensure they get the information needed from AFC.
