Customer experiences
Wow, so many 1 star reviews, here's mine. Equip For Equality refused to take my case when I needed representation in a hearing regarding Developmental Disability services. The attorney's I worked with, were very knowledgable & experienced in this field, they would volunteer to do a video call and just info dump everything they knew about the process, but when it came to participating in a telephonic hearing, they wanted no part. I'm a person with a developmental disability with the burden to prove such, and it shouldn't even be my burden. I'm not an attorney, I'm a disabled individual incapable of doing such. There's so much red tape and bureaucracy around getting services preventing individuals whom need them to live life and contribute to society with as much independence they're capable of giving, from ever archiving them, and Equip For Equality is supposed to help with that. Everyone I've ever talked to about my situation has all pointed their fingers at Equip For Equality as a recommendation. I've talked to people from EP!C disability services, Illinois Guardianship Advocacy Commission, Prairie State Legal Services, Out-of-state Court Monitors, IDHS Secretary of State, Advocates For Access, Adult Protective Services, and anyone I have ever shared my journey with asking for help. When the attorney I worked with caught wind that I was discharged from a shelter due to the extent of my disability, they immediately wanted to go-to-work at the same time they were refusing to take my case in proving my disability to get services I need to live a life of quality, at my level. Why are they even in business when they don't even want to work for their clients.
The person whom conducted my intake was unprofessional. I conducted a phone interview for both my special need children. I never received the email response I was promise I would receive. I followed up due to concerns because my son IEP was less than 24hours away. I then was contact immediately by an attorney. Whom I worked with prior. The attorney wasn’t given the proper notes. Not even my son name being accurate in one paragraph. The attorney was given some facts twisted. When speaking back to the intake person she was talking at me rudely and talking over me when I tried to explain the issue. Unconcern and was ok she had not reported the facts to the attorney. I sent the attorney a long email explaining the call. If the parent must do this long detailed email. We should never have to do a long intake as well. Be considerate to our time during a time like this. Most importantly, customer service should be implemented and taught to the person who conducts the intake.
I use an electric wheelchair for mobility. Over the years I have contacted Equip For Equality for help in dealing with places that discriminate against people with disabilities. Not once has this law firm helped me with anything. I recently was discriminated against me by a convenience store in Evanston. The lawyer Jin-Ho Chung from Equip For Equality called me to ask a bunch of questions and after his long winded explanations he told me he would visit the store and the investigation could take several weeks. He wanted me to write a letter to the store requesting that they don’t erase camera footage of the day I was in the store. Today he calls me and says the law firm won’t be taking my case. What happened to him visiting the store and an investigation that would take weeks? What happened to if we don’t take your case we will get you referrals? I told him I am not surprised cuz every time I have contacted Equip For Equality for help they have never helped me in the end. I am surprised they have a non for profit status when they don’t defend people with disabilities in my experience. And to lie and do no investigation is typical of this organization. In reality there is no real help for people with disabilities from a society that treats us like second class citizens.
Years ago these guys where the best lawyers I could’ve ever asked for they helped me with a lot of different case(s) recently I tried to reach out to my former school district to finish my high school diploma they refused to help me get/finish my high school diploma with only 37 credits and I need 40 to finish both Jessica gingold and Rachel S. Refused to help me. When Melanie grant a lawyer who worked for them originally helped me she was literally telling me my school owed me a diploma she unfortunately left to work for the Illinois school board of education. For those of you seeking special education help my advice and anyone else will give you this advice as well find a different lawyer after my employment right lawyer Hannah left then I’ve officially cut all ties with them I still stay in contact with Hannah and Melanie greatest lawyers I could’ve asked for but if you have Jessica Gingold or Rachel S. Helping you you might as well give up they’re not on your side and won’t help you for anything! That my host review!!
