Don’t leave Beeston without visiting the food temple of Essen. For brummies, just think of it as an Anderson & Hill super store. It is the epitome of good taste. If you want the best bread, bakes, wine, cheese, delicatessen, sauces, pasta etc. in the Midlands, you have to visit Essen.

Incredible sandwiches on offer here. A little pricey, however, very much worth it considering the fresh quality of ingredients and size of portions! Cool store, will be returning to browse some of their other offerings soon.

Since discovering this gem of a place about a year ago, I have always gone out of my way to return when I’m in this neck of the world! Great vibe, great staff, great food! I had a yummy sandwich and cuppa, picked up some pasta to take home, what’s not to like!

The place is warm and inviting. Got expert advice on my cheese purchase - I wanted something like a Lincolnshire Poacher. Came for a coffee but was tempted by the cardamom spiced scandi scone too. Was not disappointed. Toasted and comes with strawberry jam and cream. What a treat. What a place.
