I had a bad experience with Dr. Rapp and Dr. Hamburg’s office at dentistry on Catherine Street. I was in need of an urgent root canal and it was recommended I see an endodontist because the root canal was on an upper molar and it would be complicated. I called their office on Thursday and made an appointment for Monday for a consult and they said they could most likely provide treatment on Tuesday. They said to secure the appointment I would need my dentist’s office to send a referral and X-rays. I made sure my dentist’s office sent over over all the necessary documentation, I filled out the forms they had sent me as well and my appointment was confirmed for Monday. I waited in pain on Friday and the entire weekend for my appointment on Monday. However, on Monday morning the receptionist called me and told me that my appointment was cancelled because there was a change in the endodontist’s schedule and that there will be no availability all week. They also said I should just go see my dentist as my dentist still had an opening for me this week. There are two issues with: 1) I had wanted to get the work done by an endodontist and if I knew this office would be so flimsy with their appointments I could have made arrangements with another Endodontist’s office as my root canal is a complicated case. They didn’t offer me any another solutions than just brush me off and to tell me to go see my dentist. Yes it’s true my dentist had an opening this week but he is not an endodontist. 2) I am a university professor and I cancelled my class on Monday morning of over 70 students for the appointment on Monday morning as they said that was the only time available for the consult. Since I was in extreme nerve pain I agreed to take the appointment. Only to have the appointment cancelled at the last minute without a proper explanation. Overall, my experience with dentistry on Catherine street was bad and I would not recommend this office. I did not find them to be very professional.

The clinic was running in the middle of a construction site. There were no barriers or preventive measures in place to protect patients from the construction dust, debris or airborne mould spores. I’ve seen better barriers at the airport. I would be very concerned about the level of cleanliness and sterility required for oral procedures with this lack of oversight.

First class treatment by Erin Gaviola and Dr. Brent Johnson. Had a single visit for consult and pain free tooth extraction in under 45 Minutes. No after visit analgesics required and after a soft supper had a normal pain free sleep. This was a short time frame appointment as an out of country trip in mid august. Very highly recommend team Erin & Brent Johnson.

This was hands-down the smoothest and least terrifying medical experience of my life. I had to have all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed, and I felt safe the entire time. I was able to schedule the surgery only a week after calling in, which I never expected to happen but was incredibly relieved was an option (my consultation and procedure were simultaneous for this to be an option but I didn’t mind at all). On the day of, Pengbo was the one to greet me and inform me of everything first, and he was delightful. He was polite, reassuring and just generally good-natured, much like everyone there. The environment and energy of the waiting room was very calming and non-threatening, it felt almost like a hotel lobby. Very tranquil, very soothing. Being autistic, it’s easy for me to get overwhelmed, especially in situations where I’m already anxious. But once I arrived, I actually felt more calm than while I was heading to the appointment. When it was time for the procedure to begin, I was brought to the operating room (very tidy and sterile) along with the two people joining me for emotional support. The nurses, much like Pengbo, were very patient and helpful in reassuring me that everything would go well. They explained everything they were doing before they acted on it (another fantastic thing to see as an autistic person) and made me feel very safe. When Dr. Brent Johnson came in, I was still quite anxious. But whereas I thought he would just get started on the procedure immediately, he took an additional 30 minutes or so to walk me through absolutely everything and answer all of my questions. We talked about my X-rays, how the procedure will go once I was sedated, what would happen once I woke up, the medicine I’d take during recovery and how long I’d take it for, what foods I can and can’t eat, everything. There was no stone left unturned, and by the time we were done, I was fully calm. I’ve always had an extreme fear of needles, so I’d been dreading the IV sedation for days. But it went so smoothly and barely hurt at all, far less than even a blood test. In about 2-3 minutes, I was out like a light. By the time I woke up, I was in the recovery room in a very comfortable chair, draped with a soft blanket, and monitored by nurses. In a few minutes, my 2 companions joined me and talked things over with the nurses (I’ll be honest I don’t remember much about this time, I was still very loopy from the sedation). We were able to leave almost immediately and I got home safe and sound. I haven’t had many surgeries in my life, but I have had many encounters with ignorant, impatient and neglectful medical professionals. And this was a lovely break from those experiences. I felt seen and treated like a person, not a subject, I was always informed and aware of what was happening, and I felt very cared for and looked after by everyone there. I wish there was an option to leave more stars on this review, but unfortunately five is all I can give. I would highly recommend DOCS to anyone and everyone, especially for wisdom teeth removal. Thank you to everyone who helped me that day and made me feel calm and safe, you are all wonderful people and I hope everything continues to go well for you. P.S they let me bring home my teeth :)
