Fred N. Boehm CPA & Associates L.L.C.

Been using Fred for four years now for my personal returns and to help open an LLC for my wife's small business. He is a great accountant and very thorough as you'd expect. What I appreciate about Fred is that he's always willing to spend time to talk through issues with his clients even when it's not related to tax preparation. Today he spent nearly an hour helping me navigation the most tax efficient options for retirement savings. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the North Jersey area

Fred has been doing my tax returns for over 5 years now, and he has always offered great service, and consistently gets me a good refund (at both the state and federal level). During COVID I took an internal transfer, and my new team was based out of a NJ office, so I transferred to that office from a NYC office. Unfortunately, NY State questioned this change of office and wanted me to pay full NY State tax on all my income, instead of just on the portion of income related to Restricted Stock Units (RSU's) that had been granted to me when I did work out of a NYC office. Fred took up the response to the NY State tax authority, guiding me in collating information that was needed for my case, sending them relevant information, speaking to them multiple times via phone, and all the while keeping me updated and in the loop. NY State was painfully slow in responding, and so all in all it took close to a year, but in the end it was resolved and they agreed with the calculations Fred had originally submitted. As a result, I received a refund from NY State, instead of having to pay them thousands of dollars as they had originally claimed. I recommend Fred as a great tax preparer, as he has consistently provided great service for me and my family.

Let me kick off this review by clarifying that I don't perceive Fred as a malevolent individual or someone who deliberately mishandled our taxes. We sought his assistance this year due to the intricacies of our tax situation involving remote work, stock units, and various forms of compensation. It seems to me that Fred may not have been well-versed in navigating such complexities. His strengths appear to lie more in handling straightforward W2 tax returns. In his defense, the surge in popularity of remote work during the height of the pandemic has left many CPAs uncertain about how to address it. My reason for expressing dissatisfaction stems from the fact that, instead of delving into the discrepancies in tax liability, Fred chose to assert that his numbers were accurate, citing his extensive 30 years of experience. However, experience doesn't immunize us from errors, and he seemed resistant to acknowledging when his work proved incorrect. Not only did the tax division dispute his figures, but another CPA independently validated the tax division's findings. The tax professional even suggested that we pursue a refund for the extent of the tax-related errors, adding a humorous touch to the situation. Fred's defense relied on the assertion that he reviewed the final numbers with us. However, we sought his expertise precisely because he is the specialist in this field. If we were proficient enough to handle it ourselves, we wouldn't have sought his services. For those with complex tax returns, I strongly discourage turning to Fred. It's probable that he may not accurately calculate the numbers and might even attempt to charge for investigating and rectifying the issues. After this ordeal, we have no intentions of utilizing his services again, and I wouldn't recommend him to others facing a similar situation.
