Customer experiences
I absolutely loved this sports center — until one particular incident. One evening, when I came to the pool, a girl warned me to be careful because someone was watching from the area in the women’s locker room reserved for people with disabilities. I didn’t pay much attention at first and went swimming. But when I came back, I noticed the same person still standing there, just watching. I immediately called the staff, who were friendly but, unfortunately, far too tolerant of this voyeur. I understand that under Canadian law people can’t be physically removed without process, but this man had been standing there for over an hour watching women change, and the staff handled it inappropriately — even giving him “five more minutes” instead of putting women’s SAFETY first. Will I come back? Yes, because I truly love this center and the variety of activities it offers. But I strongly want to see SAFETY prioritized above everything else. Pros: an incredible variety of sports, very friendly staff. Cons: SAFETY is seriously lacking.
Now giving a detailed review on this: my wife and I purchased a family plus plan (after individually buying our own young adult/adult plans for a year). We initially came only for badminton sessions, and it used to be only within tight time spans with 5 courts, but now expanding to 8-10 for five days a week (5 for Saturday morning, but not as crowded as Wednesdays). Compared to all other community centers, the players here are slightly (marginally) friendlier, and the staff cleaned up the floor often especially when the floor becomes way too slippery. (Not always working, but kudos for the hardworking parts) Also, the plus features are great, and the space is always well-managed. Therefore, I decide to give it a 5-star review despite things could still improve. But for how things changed toward our favor, why not giving them a round of applause :)
This used to be a great YMCA however in more recent years has become less supportive of women's safety. Also phone use in the changerooms were a major issue. I would love to use this service because of location but more boundaries need to be placed in priority of women's safety and rights to peace of mind. Otherwise, facility is large, lots of space and staff doing the best they can within the limitations of new social standards.
Oh god, the people at the central YMCA plus area are so cheesy and sassy. They mostly are all cranky and pissed off just by the vibes they give off. It's overall a nice area though by amenities. Just the members that have accumulated in the plus area, geez. Don't join here in the plus area if you don't want your vibes ruined yo. The people suck here. Just saying. Screw this place.
