Great experience at kitchen bench. Flawless food, sweetbreads with lentils and lime were exquisite, richest savoury sauce I’ve ever tasted with the duck. Mr Bains was a gent and generous with his time. Great service throughout. The cigar hut really topped it off for me, this is ignored by most contemporary high end restaurants but without a cigar, it can only ever get close to a 5-star. ps those moaning about the location- if you want a restaurant in a forest, don’t expect it within the city limits! I think they’ve done a top job with the site
Enjoyed the taster menu immensely. Fabulous pairings of good wines with each course and interesting flavours. Food was delicious, service was exceptional, I highly recommend. My favourite aspect of the evening was the introduction and history provided on the wines before each course, often including details of the families and businesses who supplied Restaurant Sat Bains. Would go again.
Unforgettable! Real treat! Booked an overnight stay with 15 course tasting menu with accompanying wine flight. Each individual course was a work of art and a feast for the senses. The overall dining experience last around 4 hours and was a true journey for our tastebuds. Small plates paired with beautifully matched wines, served by attentive and informative staff. Throughly enjoyed ourselves. Our room was clean, tidy and beautifully presented. It was Room Three, superior room. Breakfast the next day was hearty and delicious with multiple choices. We would do this all over again!!
Sadly this was very underwhelming. At nearly £400 a head the food was quite good but by no way was I blown away by any of the courses. The waitress didn’t explain the dishes and at one point told us to share the hare course so we were given different plates of food and then told to share between 5 of us with zero explanation how. This is a 2 star restaurant where attention to detail was poor at times. I would honestly never come back unfortunately.
Absolutely amazing service and the quality of everything was second to none. Rooms were lovely but checkout was very early meaning you don’t get much of the benefit if you’re just there for a meal and a stay. Breakfast was great but either there were no sauces or we weren’t offered any. Our bedroom radiator was stuck on full meaning a slightly uncomfortable night’s sleep and when we mentioned this there was no recompense. Anywhere else I’d not have quibbled because the experience of the meal was genuinely second to none, but given the price of everything is was surprised at the rough edges.
I did not stay at the hotel but went for a meal instead for my son's 21st. We went for the 15 course taster and I had the wine float to accompany it. As expected the service was great and the food (and wine) was amazing with many different combinations that you think just can't work and then do. It is expensive but as they say you get what you pay for and the overall experience was great. Be wary though if one of more of your group cancel as you will get a hefty charge added to your bill...I am in the process of negotiating a refund so hopefully I can add or remove this comment
We ate our 3 course dinner in the kitchen and had an enjoyable evening. The service was excellent and the pastry chef who looked after us was very friendly and attentive. She also baked the most delicious treacle bread. Sat Bains himself served us our main course and explained all of the components. The food was very good but tbh the portions could have been larger when paying such a lot of money. I had to fill up on bread. While the truffle sauce on our beef was delicious, I wanted more (beef and sauce), and to have been left our own pot of sauce would have been good rather than have it whisked away once Sat had spooned it over the beef. The treacle bread which I used to mop up the remaining truffle sauce was as good as anything. It was a great experience but one which I probably won't repeat. As Sara Davies from Dragons' Den once said to a pitching entrepreneur, there's only so much she would pay for any bra and the price being asked exceded her ceiling, even though she could afford the asking price. Like Sara, we felt that the price of the food, notwithstanding the expert and brilliant way in which it was prepared and presented, exceded the ceiling that we personally would place on any plate of food. The location of the restaurant is inexplicably disappointing. Why would you pick a site almost directly below a busy elevated dual carriageway and amongst a very busy spaghetti like road system to home your incredibly high end restaurant?
Awesome evening for my 50th, shared with Sat being there celebrating his 25th anniversary. The food is just sublime and some of it really challenges the taste buds, but in an amazing way. Fantastic flavour combinations and mini meals you just wouldn't get anywhere else. I only wish they would provide you with a written description of what all the courses are. Not cheap, but it's Michelin starred and in the Midlands - a rare local treat!
