Groundworks Edmonton crew, Bohdan H and Vovo B showed up to excavate a very large hole in the floor to access plugged heating ducting. They worked virtually non-stop for four hours to dig out the excavation to allow HVAC to come in and measure. If everyone worked as hard as these two men, there’d be a lot of satisfied customers. Hi - the initial meeting for inspection went well and I was impressed with his knowledge and all that. I was looking forward to the day that the crew would come in and do the job. The communications with Alex is very good - quick response turnaround. 2 stars for sure. Well, that job ended up as a split day three weeks apart. The wait for the 2nd job was long - that is how I felt. I was duly under impression they would be putting a downspout underneath my path so I don’t have to worry about tripping hazard. It turns out it wasn’t a part of invoicing. At least some of the path is levelled out properly instead of one side sinking or one area caving in. The crew was nice. 1 star for that. Update: after being contacted by a manager, Vanessa, for a follow up consultation, we agreed that more on-site inspection was needed to review the initial work. They were able to comeback and finish the job as expected. Communication with Vanessa was excellent and very much appreciated. So that gives it 2 stars. Thank you Vanessa.

We replaced our gutters and needed to get our driveway lifted. It had sunk due to a downspout draining directly onto it. There was also a gap between the garage and driveway. Our front sidewalk also needed lifting as the gutter had a leak and was running directly onto the sidewalk. Jeric came and did a presentation on what Groundworks does, as well as the company history. He then did measurements and gave us three options. We decided on the first option and Jeric took our deposit. I specified that a morning appointment would be better as it takes 6 hours for the sealant to dry. Eric called on May 13th and indicated there had been a “mix up” in scheduling and I was not the first call. He estimated he would be at my house by 1:00 p.m. He later called back indicating the first job didn’t take as long as he thought. The crew was able to start work around 10:00 a.m. The crew worked diligently and cleaned up after they were done. Unfortunately, the siding on the garage was melted by the drying process. Eric was very apologetic and indicated Groundworks would repair the damage at their cost. He confirmed his Manager, Vanessa, would call me later that week to arrange a review. I paid the remaining balance and waited for a call. I was concerned that I hadn’t heard back after a few days and called Groundworks to talk to Vanessa. The service representative indicated Vanessa would call me back. I realize the company is busy, so I waited until after the weekend to call again. I was told Vanessa would call me back again. After no call, I called the next day indicating I had already paid in full and was concerned I would have to go to Small Claims Court to get my siding repaired. Vanessa called me that day after work. After it rained, I noticed the water pooling on the sidewalk. I took a level and found the sidewalk wasn’t level. Jeric had promised the sidewalk would be levelled. Tribute Renovations were able to match the siding and replace the damaged panels within two weeks. I was very happy with the result. Rob came to level the sidewalk but indicated the equipment he used would not work. Vanessa promised that it could be leveled but needed to buy a new concrete saw. At this point I was comfortable with leaving the sidewalk “as is”. Johnathon showed up with his crew and indicated leveling the sidewalk would cause further damage to the sidewalk. Since it was sealed, there would be no further issues. Because Groundworks could not fulfill what was indicated on the quote, Vanessa said Groundworks would provide a refund for unfinished work. After emailing the CEO once two weeks had passed, I received a notification on my phone and in my email that my refund had been issued. It is unfortunate that I had to take other measures to get a response but now that it has been resolved, I am satisfied. It was a long process, but we are satisfied with the garage gap repair. If we knew beforehand about the sidewalk issue, we would have waited to replace it. Communication seems to be lacking overall. I would give the crew 5 stars for all their efforts in responding to the issues.
