I have been a client of Hannes for approximately 3–4 years. In prior years, he prepared my taxes without issue and handled everything in a timely and professional manner. However, my most recent experience has led me to discontinue working with him. I feel it’s important to share this so that both Hannes and his clients understand where challenges may arise and the extra lengths the client will have to go through to get to the finish line. When everything goes smoothly, Hannes is efficient and professional. Unfortunately, when unexpected issues occur, such as in my case, I was met with the opposite. Communication becomes limited, concerns are dismissed, and updates on the status of the return are not provided. It is in these moments that professionalism and accountability are truly tested, and I was left disappointed by how my situation was handled. When my EV Tax Credit was initially rejected, Hannes told me I didn’t qualify due to my income. After contacting IRS on my own and confirming my income, they informed me that I did qualify for the tax credit and the reason it was rejected was due to an issue in their system. After informing Hannes about this, he defensively explained to me how he did everything correctly and he agreed to file an amended return. 8 weeks went by with no record of it being submitted in the IRS portal. I got ahold of the IRS again to ensure they have received it. The IRS representative advises me to have it refiled by mail since they should have it in their system by now, even if it was not processed yet. I inform Hannes’ staff about this and they repeatedly dismiss my concerns, insisting only that I wait. Even after the 16-week mark passed, which is how long the staff told me to wait, there was still no clear action or communication Hannes. I had to reiterate that the instruction given to me by the IRS was to send it by mail. As of mid-August, nearly five months later, my amended return has still not been submitted. Hannes has told me that my amended tax return will soon be ready to sign for the last 2 weeks so it can be mailed, but at this point I am done waiting and will go through with a different tax preparer in order to meet the EV tax credit deadline. In my experience, Hannes is capable of getting tax returns filed when it’s a quick and an easy task but when issues arise or the complexity increases, communication and professionalism fall short.
