Customer experiences
So, we went on their last weekend, November 1st, Saturday, with my partner and my partner’s dad, and gosh I wish we liked this haunt more. We had VIP tickets and the wait wasn't bad at all, we got in almost instantly. So our wait time was like, maybe 10 minutes compared to everyone else’s 1 hour+! But we were funneled through with so many people and at the back of the line so all the scares weren't a surprise. I wish they somehow broke us up a bit better. It was also so loud and so bright in rooms, you couldn't really hear the characters speaking. They were also rushing us through the haunt, so we couldn't really look at the decor either. I also found some of the character interactions a bit lacking in comparison to other haunts I’d been to, as in, the interactions weren’t as varied and mostly giggling, screaming/general zombie and monster noises (your cast was amazing at making those sounds!), or telling us to keep going and get out. I really loved the premise of the house. I loved the backstory and their attention to detail, the character designs and the clear passion and love dripping from every crevice but man, being funneled through with so many people soured the experience for us. I was also surprised at just how many more lines were inside the actual manor. Like, you get in and get in a line. The twins were so cool though. Move forward and another line. And then get stuck by so many other people and the actors usually only targeted the line leaders. The slide was super fun though. I wanted to find that key SO bad. I read the lore a million times leading up to it but wasn’t sure who the key holder was for that night. I believe I saw them with a purple glow stick but I wasn’t sure and also getting rushed through the room lol. Maybe I just didn’t check their insta well enough. None of us regret going, it was a fun experience!! Though it wasn't our favorite haunt of the season. I hope we’re able to visit again and experience what other reviewers felt.
I’ve been to many haunted houses in the Chicagoland area, and HellsGate is by far my favorite! I got a VIP ticket, which made the wait much shorter. You first take a spooky bus ride to the venue, then pass through a few lines, with a bar. The haunted house itself is incredible, amazing production and the actors were great. Afterwards, there’s a second bar area with food trucks and even a second round inside the haunted house through the attic with a slide (not sure if this was like a VIP perk or something because the people behind us said they didn’t get to see the first haunt. We thought we were going to repeat the same house until they took us through the attic, SOO FUN). The gift shop here is like best I’ve ever seen at any haunted house, I definitely splurged a little. Overall, such an amazing experience, If you love Halloween, you NEED to check this place out🎃
Best haunted house in Illinois! Me and my friends loved the guys and will be coming back next year! Also try Krispy’s fried chicken, some guy gives out free samples in portable john #17. Names Lars, he’s chill though.
even if you buy tickets online you need to wait in line to get physical ones and they cost more in person, with tax it’s $50 a person. it was a 2.5 hour wait in total, but at least the haunted house was cool and longer than most i’ve been to. it had an outdoor section and an actual haunted house portion with cool cast members. i would say 3 stars because the flashing lights at one point are intense and the cost is high.
