We brought our almost year old Australian cattle dog, Milo, to Highland Canine from almost an hour away and continued to through basic, intermediate and advanced training because it was so worth it. The relationship between our wild puppy and family became 100 times better by learning how to communicate with our dog. We had the “barkiest” dog on the first day of our class and were so worried they would turn us away, but by the end of the first class we had tools to distract, control and feel comfortable walking him. Then, by the end of the advanced class we have him e-collar trained and comes immediately when called no matter the distraction, no longer insanely aggressive towards other dogs during walks, doesn’t jump up on people when they walk in the door, and so many more skills! While you have one group leader, this school is also training other dog trainers who come help you during each session, so it is like having a one on one experience almost every session- working through your specific challenges. Even more so- if there was something that couldn’t be addressed in the group setting they would meet you after hours to help work through specific issues. Any questions, concerns, or worries- the team reassured me and worked me through it. Their priority was to make sure you had strong communication skills with your dog (giving and receiving signals) so you could feel comfortable in whatever way your lifestyle needs. You got exposure to so many different scenarios so when you got home you were comfortable working in all kinds of conditions with your dog. I can’t speak highly enough about how wonderful and knowledgeable and clearly experienced this training program is. I never felt judged with my unruly dog , only encouraged and helped. Truly worth the time and commitment to make your best friend- even more enjoyable! I could go on for a book. 100 percent recommend.
I have 2 Labradoodles, 4 years and 8 months old. They can be high energy and quite curious. I decided to send each one as puppies to the Harmony site when I had to be out of town for an extended period. Kress had them super well behaved at the end of their time there and then taught me how to maintain their training. He gave me general principles that would work for any behavior I wanted to reinforce or delete. I continue to drive 3 hours to leave them with him anytime I'm out of town for 2 weeks or more. They refresh their training and work on anything new. My girls LOVE to go there. They are happy and relaxed when I pick them up, and they wiggle and whine excitedly as soon as I take the Highland K9 exit off the highway to drop them off. They have been super flexible with my schedule, including extending their stay by 2 weeks because of Hurricane Helene. Everywhere I go, people tell me how exceedingly well-behaved they are. I am confident with them off leash, even the 8 month old puppy! Kress and the crew at "the farm" are top-notch!
Graduate of Class #83! This school was amazing. The instructors are so knowledgeable and willing to help. The master trainer program is definitely the way to go. You will end up with so much experience by the end of it.
