Customer experiences
We waited for a full thirty minutes to receive the soil after completing our payment. During this time, the sales associates appeared to be engaged in personal conversations with one another, rather than attending to customers. It is essential for management to address the quality of service, as failure to do so may result in a decline in clientele. Consequently, I do not intend to return to this location in the future.
I have to give a shout out to the young people in the paint department today. They were so pleasant with big smiles. The young lady who mixed the paint, was very bubbly and we laughed over me not being able to decide on a paint tint. A young man was also in the paint department and he helped me pick out the brand of paint. Great employees!!
I stopped by this store today expecting a quick trip to pick up a single bag of potting soil. What should have taken five minutes turned into a frustrating and unnecessarily complicated process. After walking through the store to the garden centre, I found a sign stating the area was locked and to “find an associate for assistance.” Easier said than done—finding an available employee when you actually need one is a challenge in itself. I walked back up to the tills and asked for help. They paged someone and sent me back to the garden centre to meet them there. When I asked why the garden centre was locked, I was told it wasn’t because people steal dirt, but because customers sometimes take merchandise from inside the store and throw it over the fence to a waiting car. While I understand the need to prevent theft, large retailers like this already account for a certain amount of shrinkage in their budgets—it’s part of doing business at scale. Meanwhile, paying customers are left jumping through hoops for something as basic as a bag of soil. I suggested that, like many other garden centres, they simply station an employee out there. That would make far more sense than inconveniencing everyone over a worst-case scenario. In the end, it just shouldn’t be this hard to buy dirt. Next time, I’ll go to one of the many other stores in town that manage to offer the same products—without treating every customer like a potential shoplifter. To add to this point (Potential Shoplifting) - every single time I have returned something to this store, they have to open the box and completely tear it apart to make sure everything is included. I am particularly referring to a vacuum cleaner that I mistook as a carpet shampooer - that I have never even opened. As well, they need to spend some time sweeping up the garbage and cigarette butts from the front of their store.
Terrible customer service! Employees at this store all appear angry and rude! Are they there to help!!? Or stand around looking bothered when asked for assistance. The young woman at customer service was rude, muttering under her breath at me. Appeared angry when I asked to speak to a manager. The unsmiling manager did help me. I would not recommend this location.
