Hub Climbing Markham

Tried The Hub Climbing Gym in Markham for the first time and had a pretty good experience overall. The check-in and intro were quick since I’ve climbed before, and it was great that my friend could bring me in for free with their new “one guest per month” perk for existing members. I still had to rent gear like climbing shoes, but the process was smooth. I came on a Thursday and it was quite busy, but there were still plenty of walls to try. I was told they change their routes weekly, which is awesome for keeping things interesting. Lots of fun climbs, auto-belays, and partner routes available. My only concern is the pit area. It seems okay, but from what existing members have mentioned, it isn’t cleaned very often. They’ve only ever seen it cleaned once, and it might be a good idea to refresh the foam every 6 months or so to keep things feeling hygienic. Overall, a cool first-time experience with plenty of variety. I’d definitely come back, maybe on a quieter day.

So expensive for what it is! $11 for shoe hire, total of $82 for myself and my daughter to climb on a lazy Monday afternoon when the place is empty. It's just not good value for money. Staff were nice enough, but it's just so expensive for a family activity. Suggest making it cheaper during off peak times since we won't be coming often due to the pricing and won't be climbing together at all. I'll just watch while my daughter climbs. 😩 Very disappointed. In response to the owner's reply: The memberships are fine for those that want to commit their time to multiple visits a week. For a family that has a kids who do numerous activities throughout the week we cannot justify spending multiple days each week here to make back this value. Should my wife, daughter and myself want to climb one afternoon for an hour or so the price to do so is close to $130! How you expect us to spend that sort of money to determine the extent of our interest in the gym is beyond me. You're killing your own potential by being too expensive for people to have a go and try it out to see if it's for them. It's fine, you guys do what you like, it's just disappointing that you're pricing it too high for an average family to afford, even during the off-peak hours where there's only 3 other people in the gym.

Went to hub climbing Markham. compared to the Mississauga location It is a totally different gym. The climbs are not that great with most of them being ladders with harder hold. The root setters there clearly have no idea what they are doing. Everything seems super lazy. I could be climbing a V4, but in reality it’s like a V1 with slopers. Most of the climbs are like ladders with the difficulty being the type of hold used. When the gym is busy It’s nearly impossible to climb anything safely as there are children running around everywhere with no supervision and the staff are always at the front desk. To top it all off the gym cleanliness is a rating of zero. It’s absolutely disgusting with Band-Aids and tape lying around everywhere garbage on the floors chalk everywhere I will never be coming back to this location. What a mess. Respond to owner: I walked past the front desk as I have already climbed at this gym before, and I asked permission by the front desk staff look at the gym as I was looking to get a membership and I wanted to see everything that the gym had to offer. that clearly went out the window after seeing the disaster in front of me.
