Customer experiences
Gross. Just walking on the floor turned me off buying anything. If you can't keep that clean, I'm going to assume nothing in the food warmer is edible.
Just got food from here, alot of items in the food warmer were over an hour past it's experation. I told the cashier, whom responded annoyed "the kid hasn't had the time to throw them out yet". Not sure how a cook can't find the 30 seconds in an hour to throw out expired food. If you buy ANYTHING definitely pay attention to the sell by times when you go to the gas station. If the workers know, but don't care and get annoyed when ya let them know, that becomes a huge red flag!
Taking my 3 grandchildren shopping during fall was a fun and colorful experience for us,
Poorly maintained, poorly staffed, and poorly managed; this location has really gone downhill in recent years. On three different occasions I've stopped to fill up only to find that gas prices are 10 cents higher at the pump than advertised on the sign that drew me in. Paper towels and windshield washing supplies are regularly completely depleted. On several occasions there has only been ONE dilapidated squeegee for the entire suite of pumps. Bathrooms are disgusting and obviously infrequently cleaned or inspected. One in three visits I find they have no soap or no paper towels. Sodas and flavors are often out, but the fountain is unlabeled and staff doesn't seem to care or notice. Some flavors have been unavailable for months at a time, but remain unlabeled at the dispenser. The price for a soda refill changes near-daily: $1.00, $1.35, $1.05, $1.55, $0.99... and I can never get a straight answer as to why it changes. Staff often appears to be overwhelmed and under-supported by management (I have yet to see a manager anywhere in the store, much less helping employees keep up, regardless of the time of day). I highly recommend a staff checklist for the start and end of every shift. Some items to include: Check bathrooms for cleanliness and supplies, check pump islands for supplies, report any problems or insufficiencies to management. And lastly, it is obvious that your store is woefully understaffed, and employees are poorly trained in dealing with issues that arise. If you're having trouble hiring, it's time to offer higher wages and better support from management to hire, train, and retain good employees. As it stands, this store falls far short of the Hy-Vee "helpful smile" brand. Both upper and middle management need to do better. Much better.
Hy-Vee Gas is a gas station.
