Customer experiences
I was looking for a quick bite to eat so I could kill time before stopping at a car show and stumbled upon a small food cart pod off Powell. This was located in a small shopping plaza and had plenty of parking. I’ve always heard of Jojo Pdx and never had a chance to try it until now. This food cart is straight to the back and when I walked up to order, the guys working the cart kind of just stood there. No one greeted me of acknowledged me. I waited a few more minutes for someone to come take my order as they all saw me standing there, yet still no one smiled or said a word to me. So I told them I was ready to order. Ordered some strips and jojos and a chicken sandwich. Food was fresh and chicken was juicy and moist. The chicken was pretty bland and lacking in flavor. Didn’t taste like there was any seasoning or anything on it. Jojos were good and crispy. We sat at a table in the corner near the parking lot. Cute little shop. Customer service at the food cart could definitely use some work.
Jojo comes up on a lot of PDX "Best of..." lists, and as a result, when I was looking to book a reservation and found no convenient time slots available, I figured the next best alternative would be to skip the BS and just hit up the food cart. Good choice. Reasonably priced for a premium burger in Portland, I went with the Mr. Onion Burger, which lived up to the name in every way possible: an assortment of awesome Alliums assembled under a bun, and tied together with a tasty, tangy Alabama white mustard. Very much approved! I'm now even more intrigued to return and try the Spicy Cheeseburger, which would normally have been my #1 pick, but I wanted to try something different. Of course, one can't eat at Jojo's without trying the Jojo's, right? And my visit was no exception: a small order of the Nashville Hots was a fantastic accompaniment, even if the red sauce and breading got absolutely everywhere! And even a small order is a sizeable portion, meaning I took half of it home with me, for later. Jojo came with a lot of hype and expectations, but they knocked it out of the park, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone. And if you're like me, and you don't need any pretense to enjoy a classic burger at a reasonable price, don't bother reserving a table in NW; just head over to this cart on SE Powell.
I had Southern fired chicken sandwich and my husband had classic cheese burger. Both are amazingly delicious! The chicken sandwich was not heavy and crispy with lots of flavours. We liked Jojo fries so much too! As they start cooking after we order, they were so hot and fresh :) definitely wanna come back again.
I tried The Standard chicken sandwich. I don't want to compare but the build is similar to Popeyes but it's so much better. The fried chicken is thicker and the bun is perfect. At this point I don't think I can recommend this cart enough. I'm now biking across town just for this sandwich.
Jojo Food Truck is a sandwich shop.
