Kennaland

I went to this salon yesterday for the first time as I live in the neighborhood and wanted to find a salon closer to me. The salon itself was cute, welcoming and clean. They offer you a beverage, which is really nice. The haircut itself was sadly really disappointing and I’m desperately waiting for it to grow out. My stylist was Holly Ivy. I showed her a picture of the length/style I wanted. My hair is thin/wavy and I wanted a low maintenance cut, one I’ve had many times before without issue. After showing the stylist the picture, we agreed upon the length and I had said there are some layers in this picture so id like some layering but not anything crazy to where the hair will flip out underneath. We agreed on “soft layers.” She proceeded to use a razor to cut my hair piece by piece, taking over an hour. Initially she cut a little in the back and asked if that length was okay and we decided on a little longer. She asked if I wanted it floating over the shoulders or touching the shoulders and I said touching. I assumed she understood that hair will shrink a little when it dries and to cut a little longer when it is wet. Though I didn’t even get an actual blow out after the cut, it looked decent as I was leaving the salon. When I got home I noticed just how much she had layered and thinned out my already thin hair (which I cannot wear straight now). It also looks slightly uneven in places. I am extremely frustrated because I just spent 160$ on a haircut I didn’t ask for and now have to use heat products to manage my hair, which I rarely use. Pictures shown are what I asked for vs what I received. Disappointing as I can’t even ask to have it fixed as it’s already shorter than I wanted and I don’t want to go any shorter. I can’t speak to the other stylists as I have only been to this salon and it seemed highly rated.

I’ve been going to Dennis for almost a year now and his cuts always leave me feeling renewed and lighter. They grow out very nicely too. He’s a master of the perfectly undone look. We just started on a color journey together and he has been extremely dedicated to making sure I’m happy with the outcome and isn’t afraid to make improvements so we both feel great about the end result. It always feels like an artistic collaboration. He’s a gentle soul to boot. Easy to chat with and also easy to space out around if you’re not feeling as social that day. I’ve attached photos of my hair with a grown out red glaze and the end result of tone-on-tone highlights that he achieved after a couple of visits.

Dennis at Kennaland is a literal hair wizard. I went in for a balayage and came out feeling like a sun-kissed goddess. Not only is he insanely talented, but he’s also one of the nicest, most down-to-earth people you’ll ever meet. He totally got my vision (even when I was being vague) and somehow made it even better. The color is seamless, soft, and seriously glowing—like I just got back from vacation, minus the jet lag. The whole vibe at Kennaland is chill but super professional, and Dennis makes the whole experience feel like a treat.
