I want to write a review for Kenora Family Dental owing to an absolutely fantastic experience that I had with Dr. Robert Penning. My former dentist did a root canal and a crown, and while I was out the cost for the crown and the root canal (3k+ I believe), no post was placed, the Crown was just basically stuffed with foundation and glued on. Essentially this is the same logic as gluing a cabinet knob onto a cabinet instead of screwing the knob on from the back. When the Crown placement predictably failed around a year later, owing to absolutely no supporting structure, my former dentist wanted a) another $2,000+ to remake the crown and essentially do the same work over again that he screwed up on or b) for me to pay a shocking amount for an implant. I went to another dentist that gave me a similar song and dance about not reusing the Crown except that the work was not repeatable and the "best option" implant would cost around $9,000. Neither of these dentists, in a seeming absence of logic, would even consider to reuse the crown that was already made and a year old, which was quickly recovered, and which was in fine shape. As I called around for pricing I thought I would also try just across the border in Kenora and, through his great assistant Kari, I was lucky enough to find Dr. Penning. Dr. Penning, while stating that he was able to do an implant, for around HALF THE PRICE of what I was quoted (in part because the good Doctor does everything in shop and doesn't subcontract specialized work out) offered for my consideration that I didn't necessarily need an implant because, contrary to the other dentists, a post / re-cementation would potentially be fine. Best of all Dr. Penning was also able to reuse the crown and said there was absolutely no reason, to his mind, that the crown couldn't be reused as it was in fine fettle. So approximately half an hour later, during which the painless process was explained and narrated with admirable precision and expertise, the core/post/recementation process was completed and the crown was back in place albeit now being supported by a post at a total cost of around $422, not an uncertain $2,000 plus or ~$9,000 for an implant. To my mind it is absolutely worth the trip to Kenora to see this fine and honest fellow who has an exceptional amount of experience and qualifications, as one can plainly see through any amount of historical sleuthing. If you get quotes from Winnipeg dentists in terms of localized pricing, which I found at times to be shocking in nature, make sure you get a second opinion and give Dr. Penning a call. I would recommend his services without hesitation.

I had the pleasure of an appointment with Dr. Kim and assistant Abby. I mentioned I wasn't a very good dental patient but that I would try! Abby did everything possible to put me at ease before the multiple procedures. Dr. Kim was very kind and professional and I experienced no pain or discomfort. The vibe in the whole office was very welcoming and positive starting with Kari at the front desk. Kudos to the whole team for making my appointment easier for me and actually enjoyable! Highly recommend.

Very family friendly environment with a comforting setting, allowing me to know that I will be taken care of properly.
