One of the most pleasant hobby shops I’ve ever visited. Staff is super friendly, and helpful. They carry a wide range of model, tool, and paint types. Cool atmosphere, fair pricing even when compared to some larger online retailers.

As a hobbiest( model railways) it is important to have a dependable supplier. During the pandemic, the service provided by Steve at Lakehead Models made my isolation so much better. For example, I was able to acquire all the Digital Command Control hardware I required to complete my model railway. In the past few years, Lakehead models has been my “go to hobby shop” in Thunder Bay in any case, but his service in the past year or two has been phenomenal. As for location, it is street parking, however I always am able to find a spot nearby. There are a number of restaurants and shops in the area for family that may not share your enthusiasm , to browse and enjoy. The product selection is excellent, not only for railways but also a large supply plastic models, figurines, and the like. Some of the models are reissues of ones I knew as a child and include vehicles, aircraft, ships, space craft and so much more I can’t begin to describe. Also an excellent selection of paints, glues, filler, tools, brushes and other items required for a fully stocked hobby shop. There is a selection of remote controlled aircraft parts, but it isn’t being restocked, so contact them through their website if you are looking for something. If Steve doesn’t have it, he can order it in for you, if it is available. I can email Steve and (as he knows I will drive 6 hours, as soon as possible, to pickup my order), he will arrange to order it for me. If I can’t get there, he will ship it to me, something that really helped during the pandemic. There are also a number of finished model dioramas, a large scale see- through submarine and an N scale model railway in the front window.
