I’m self-employed with an S-Corp. I self-administer my 401k and was not aware that when the value reaches 250k you have to submit a Form 5500 statement-of-value return to the IRS. I was late with the first one and the IRS has a relief program with a small fine for late filing. I correctly filed an appeal for relief and then got successive notices that they needed “60 more days” and then started getting notices that I was out of compliance and subject to over 100k of penalties and interest. Repeated contact with IRS did nothing and my case seemed stuck in limbo.
