Lazy Lobster Castle Cary

Such a treat, and that's coming from someone who's not big on seafood! 🦞 All the sharing plates were stunning, especially the seafood teamed with clearly thought out accompaniments to enhance their flavours, but my personal favourite was the rib eye steak. Cooked to perfection, super saucy, on a bed of crispy potato rösti. Ugh, exquisite. Plenty of staff on hand, we didn't feel like we were kept waiting at any point. The decor was, as expected, completely sublime. I'd be happy to visit again on a celebratory occasion, but just going to let my bank balance recover first.

Two for lunch, one of them an elderly man who claims to only have a small appetite! As is common these days, the menu is full of small plates and it is recommended to have two to three plates per person. So we did! We shared six plates, Thai crab fritters, tiger prawns, Salt and chilli mackerel and crispy red mullet, Brixham dressed crab, Kimchi salad and Crispy spiced new potatoes. My father, the one with a supposed limited appetite, also had four oysters to start, and I ordered olives and feta, which incidentally came with anchovies. Very nice, but the menu doesn't mention the anchovies, so if you have a dislike for them, beware. The food was lovely, but far too much! The four tiger prawns were massive, the bowl of potatoes, which were more salty than spiced, was big enough for four and the dressed crab was probably a bit excessive on our part. Very expensive though! Six small plates, the oysters and olives and two glasses of wine came to £130. It's not really surprising that the place was very quiet. Despite being very good food, who can afford to pay that much for a Saturday lunch? Maybe smaller portions with smaller prices would be better. I'm glad we went, but I'll not rush back. It will have to be saved for a special treat because of the price.

Absolutely delightful. The restaurant is beautifully done, and downstairs is a real feature with the brick ceiling and the coin bar! Have been in many times, for food and just for drinks - the staff are always friendly and welcoming. Jeff, the gent behind the bar is super friendly and chatty, as well as being very knowledgeable about drinks and cocktails, and often has my drink ready before I walk through the door. Hugo, the gent in front of the bar, is always friendly and welcoming, and again, knows his stuff. The food is divine - we've tried most of the dishes on the menu, and have never had a bad dish here. The team in the kitchen clearly know their stuff, as the food is perfectly seasoned and tastes delicious. A personal favourite was the recent special with the squid ink risotto, which is the best risotto I've tasted. The Café de Paris Mussels were also insane. The Sardines special, see the picture, was banging as well! A great place to eat or drink, and a great addition to Castle Cary. Just can't stop going back!!
