The gum graft surgery experience with Dr. Ghassan Omera could have been made better with effective doctor/ staff-patient pre-operative and post operative conversations that provided explicit clarity and information. This was my first time at Altima for a surgery (moved over to the clinic in June, due to proximity) Here are my observations of the gum graft surgery (last week of June) with Dr. Omera: 1) The 4-pg Post-operative Care instruction sheets given to me immediately after the surgery-could have been better organized and formatted for easier understanding (perhaps a bulleted list?). I called in immediately to clarify but the pleasant admin support/ receptionists were also oblivious. They are an extremely pleasant bunch :) 2) I learned on suture removal day (1st follow-up appt after surgery) that only 2pages of this post-operative sheet were to be followed up until then! Perhaps better timing for those printed sheets? 2 first and 2 after the follow-up appointment would make better sense? 3) I just felt that the sheets could have been a much simpler, understandable patient-friendly version information. The same with the default prescription print outs. 4) I tried telling Dr. Ghassan Omera on my second visit but he said I should have emailed him. Had he sympathetically explained the procedure and the pre-during-post care, an email would not be required! Suggestion: -Have a sit down talk (even 5mins) explaining what the surgery entails, procedure outline, downtime if required, rest, care etc. I was not even informed that I should have had a heavy meal pre-operation since I would not be able to eat after due to the swelling and stent (and pain!) Communication definitely needs to be improved and staff need to know the procedures carried out to effectively communicate these to patients -Post surgery, explanations and instructions need to be given (even if by the receptionist/ supporting staff like Priscilla or Kaya who assisted him), medication, whether the stent stays or to be removed etc. Dr. Omera seemed in a rushed mood and yes, it was a hot day but I was in the patient chair too! -Please amend the care instructions based on patient feedback to make it a more patient-centric approach, given my disappointing experience (hopefully the first and last of its kind!). Perhaps a review of existing policy/ documents to patient is highly recommended Dr Omera and his supporting staff need to have clear patient communication and develop a sympathetic bedside manner in the least - not be rushed for the next patient/ work/ note taking etc. This was my first time for having dental surgery of any kind and given this, I deserved to be well and clearly informed. All in all, I'm sure Dr. Omera is well experienced in the surgery he performed as I am healing well but the overall experience was extremely disappointing that I developed a phobia for any kind of dental surgery for myself or family members ever.

Great place to get all your dental work done. All the staff is so professional and courteous. Got my hygiene and fillings done and, I must say, the hygienists and the dentist explained everything to me so nicely and I felt comfortable getting all the work done. Even the staff upfront is so respectful and professional. The best part, they bill directly through insurance! 😍
