Had an amazing experience at MEC Vancouver, especially thanks to Johnny from the shoes department. From the moment we started talking, he asked all the right questions—what the shoes were for, the type of hikes we usually do, our experience level, the terrains and weather we’d be facing. It felt like he really wanted to understand our needs instead of just selling us something. Johnny was incredibly knowledgeable and patient, walking us through different options and explaining why certain features would work better for us. He even encouraged us to try the shoes on their in-store ā€œfake rockā€ demo area, so we could feel what it’s like to hike on uneven terrain before making a decision. That extra step really helped us choose the perfect pair with confidence. Thanks to Johnny, we left feeling happy with our purchase and excited for our next hike. MEC, you’ve got a gem of an employee!

I have purchased a lot of things over the years to face the rainy šŸŒ§ļø weather in Vancouver. However, I have never purchased instant meals for my travels. So, I purchased a few freeze dried meals, just in case I need them. I must say that I was quite impressed 🄳by the quality and taste of the foodšŸ›. My favorite was chicken and ricešŸššŸ—, spaghetti with meatballsšŸ, beef stewšŸ„©šŸ„•šŸ„”šŸ«›, in that particular order. I also tried the beef chilli, but I didn’t like it, it seemed that it didn’t hydrate very well, but the water didn’t seem hot enough, that was out of my control. The kettle perhaps wasn’t working good enough. So, I will give it another try at some point again. Average prices for each meal was about 15/16 Canadian dollars, (plus gst?) I have to confirm on that. I will definitely get some of these meals again and keep them for emergencies, since they are good for 29 years, if not more😲! Note that some meals are less than 100 grams and some are a little more than that. So, for a hungry person, you might need two meals to fully satisfy your hunger. Of course, the staff šŸ§šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ§šŸ¼šŸ§šŸ½ā€ā™€ļøare always so helpful in directing me to the right areas to find what I need. They are friendly and very eager to help. The store is super organized and clean, it makes it easier to find what you need and the experience quite pleasant. šŸ«¶šŸ¾ā¤ļøšŸ’ššŸ˜

Visited MEC today to pick up a pair of hiking boots that were on sale. The store was quite busy, so I didn’t expect much assistance . The boots were just sitting on a table on the first floor, so I grabbed my size and headed to the cashier. When I asked if I could get a bag or box to carry them (since I had a 30-minute walk home), I was told ā€œnoā€ without any other option offered. It felt a bit ridiculous that nothing , not even a reusable shopping bag was available to help customers carry their purchase, especially for something bulky like boots. I couldn’t help but feel like I was being treated differently because it was a sale item. Then I walked over to another counter, and a kind staff member found a plastic bag from the trash to help me out. I really appreciated his effort, but overall the experience was disappointing. I get it the store is clean and offers a wide range of products. But honestly, train your staff better. A little empathy and problem solving would go a long way lmao

This store is a walking contradiction. The Good (and Confusing) News: * They have the largest selection of outdoor gear in the region—if you need it, they should ā€œhaveā€ it. * The staff on the floor are helpful. The Bad (and Also Confusing) News: * Pricing is Steep, despite the occasional "discount" you might hear about. * The layout is an organizational nightmare. * Customer Service is Aloof, especially at the checkout. The female Asian cashier processed my full transaction (membership check, address update, payment) with zero eye contact. It was an incredible feat of impersonal service. Is it a cultural thing? Intentional rudeness? Who knows. The Co-op Promise? The much-hyped member benefits and bonus points I hear them pitch to new customers never seem to materialize for me. I drove in from the burbs for liquid chalk advertised online, found it missing, and had to settle for a pricey substitute. Next time, I'm skipping the trek and the precarious social checkout experience. I’ll just order online… maybe from elsewhere.

MEC Vancouver is a sportswear store.
