This place has a very interesting menu, it can be a bit much. We went here for breakfast on a Friday morning. We where able to be seated immediately. The parking situation is ok, good luck finding street parking. There is a parking lot behind the building that is connected to the building. You can get a voucher for a discount on parking. I was lucky enough to find street parking. On to the food. The food is pretty good, I personally believe it can be a bit too much. We ordered the fried green tomatoes, they where breaded excellently, they lacked salt, the sauce on them was ok, I thought they put too little relish under them but it was really good. I ordered the gravy train skillet, the chicken tenders where super dry however the collards where delicious, the grits, where delicious, the gravy was ok, i think the egg just added too much to it. My aunt ordered the Fresh garden omelet, she enjoyed it. My father got the southern slammer sandwich, he said he enjoyed it.
I have been to Miss Shirley’s Cafe many times and always enjoyed taking visitors to this staple location. No longer a local, I was in town for a concert with friends. We had brunch and I was beyond impressed on how the server and manager took my friend’s allergies so seriously. Not only did they ask about any allergies, they informed us how the food was going to be prepared - changing of gloves and a different griddle. My friend was elated about those accommodations and the food was delicious. I ordered the Chicken and Cheddar Cheese Green Onion Waffles and couldn’t pass up the Fried Green Tomatoes. The portions were great, server was friendly and attentive. Highly Recommend!
Miss Shirley’s doesn’t take reservations, so be ready to wait in a live line — usually about 15–20 minutes. But honestly, it moves fast enough, and it’s worth it. By American standards, the breakfast here is very solid. The interior is simple, nothing fancy, but the service is exceptionally warm and welcoming. And the food — classic American comfort breakfast — is flavorful, hearty, and absolutely worth trying. Expect to pay around $20 per dish, whether you go for the salmon Eggs Benedict or the fluffy pancakes. Both are satisfying and perfectly prepared. Overall, it’s a great spot for a cozy, tasty start to the day.
