Dunderbak’s has been a local staple for years and there are reasons for that: - Beer. But not just beer— beer in giant glass steins. - Some of the best German/Austrian dinner offerings. You can get seven variations of schnitzel here, and that’s not even a quarter of their menu. There’s so much to choose from. - The vibes here are nostalgic and welcoming. Yes, the interior is cheesy to some. But I happen to love cheese, so pile it on. To me, the German decor and density in the room makes this feel like a place where you can always find a friend or have quality time with the ones you came with. - And so you don’t leave empty handed, they have all sorts of imported candies, cookies, and culinary accoutrements available for purchase. Something I’d like to note here, because I see it as a common complaint: This place gets very busy— even parking, so keep that in mind. And when it gets busy you may have to wait for your server. I suggest that this is the sort of place you’ll want to come to when you have plenty of time to sit and enjoy your meal & beverages. Also, if you are not a social person, this place will not be for you. The open seating and long tables are inherently designed to encourage interaction. It’s abuzz with joviality, music, and casual banter. I personally love the atmosphere but I know this is not the case for everyone. That being said, please come and have a great time, be patient with your servers, and enjoy the live music. It’s like Oktoberfest every day!

Excellent jogger, schnitzel and warm German potato salad, potato pancakes were also great. Tried the different beers. I like the Belgium on tap the best. German chocolate cake excellent. The only thing missing was a pair of skis from a famous German downhill racer.

Took a suggestion off of a Reddit post for this place, and wow were they right. Such good food and well done atmosphere and service. It’s the type of place you want to gatekeep so it doesn’t get too popular. Very fair prices and good food.

This was not our first visit, but it had been some time since we last dined here, as we no longer live nearby. Overall, our experience was good, though not quite as memorable as in the past. First, a word of advice—unless you’re comfortable with paying $17 for five pierogies, skip them as an appetizer (they aren’t on the menu, I asked about getting some as a starter). They used to offer two as a side for about $3-4, so seeing this price was a bit shocking. Sure, they come with sauce and some onions and peppers, but it still felt overpriced. A heads-up from the server would have been appreciated, especially since the pierogies themselves were underwhelming and lacked flavor. On a positive note, the beer was excellent, and the sour cream schnitzel was as delicious as always. The spinach salad wasn’t my personal favorite, but it wasn’t bad. Service was great! Our server was attentive and helpful, and the manager made the rounds to check in with us a couple time, which was a nice touch. Overall, it remains a nice place for authentic German cuisine, with the added bonus of a wide variety of treats, candies, and imported goods available for purchase.
