had my wisdom teeth removed earlier today. The surgeon and his team were wonderful, professional and accommodating, always were willing to answer my questions and inquires which made me feel more comfortable and less stress. The procedure was very quick taking under an hour and was seamless and painless. Moreover once the extraction was completed the surgeon was more than happy and lay out the post op instructions and to write out a prescription to ensure that the pain could be minimized. Thank you Royal Dental Hospital and to the surgeon who I forgot to ask his name, thank you Anna the dental assistant šŸ˜„šŸ˜„

Firstly, I want to express my gratitude for the care and attention my grandmother received when we came through the emergency department. The staff and students were incredibly attentive to her needs, especially in managing her pain, and they were patient and understanding throughout the process. This aspect of our visit was excellent and greatly appreciated. However, I encountered an issue that I feel needs to be addressed. After our visit, we were referred to the specialist clinic. Four days later, I received a call stating that in order to proceed with the referral, an OPG x-ray was required. When I asked if we could have the x-ray done at the hospital, I was told that we would need to go to a GP or local dentist to get a referral for the x-ray. Even after multiple questions on why we couldn’t do it at the hospital, they did not give me a reason and told us to go to a GP. This process felt frustrating and inefficient. It seemed unreasonable to have to go through additional steps, including booking an appointment with a GP who is often booked out, just to obtain a referral for the x-ray. After receiving emergency care and being referred to a specialist, it seemed logical that the Royal Dental Hospital should have referred us directly to the x-ray department rather than requiring us to go through multiple steps outside the hospital. It’s like going to the hospital for a surgery and you’re told you need to do blood tests done but they tell you you can’t do it at the hospital. As a result from this experience, my grandmother and I spent extra time going to the GP, then the radiologist, and then back to the specialist clinic to provide the x-ray. This added unnecessary time, effort, and cost, as my grandmother had to pay to see the doctor for the referral. I believe the process could have been much more streamlined by having the Royal Dental Hospital handle the x-ray referral internally, saving us multiple trips and expenses.

Recently visited Royal Dental Hospital for dental emergency for family member and was treated by Dr Nicole. Dr Nicole gave a very thorough examination of the tooth condition, clearly explained what needs to be done and provided the necessary treatment in a very efficient manner. Didn’t feel being rushed at all and the entire experience was a completely stress-free one. Highly impressed by Dr Nicole’s very caring nature, empathy to the patient’s concern and her exceptional professionalism. Dr Nicole is truly an exemplary dentist that cares for the patient and knows what needs to be done. Thank you once again for your outstanding and second-to-none professional service, Dr Nicole! Would also like to take the chance to thank the entire team at Royal Dental Hospital for your dedication and hard work in such a highly demanding environment. You all deserve to be well respected and highly commended.

Yesterday was an extremely difficult day. I hadn’t eaten or drunk anything since speaking with a night nurse at 8 a.m., who recommended I go to the Royal Melbourne Dental Hospital’s emergency department. I arrived in significant pain and waited for six hours without any proper food or water, feeling increasingly exhausted. The waiting area was chaotic and overwhelming. It was understaffed, with emergency and general appointments merged, and the environment became progressively louder and more uncomfortable as time went on. When I finally got to see someone, they only performed an X-ray and offered no real treatment or solutions for my pain. The dentist I saw was dismissive and insulting. Despite my explaining my medical conditions and efforts to manage my dental hygiene, she ignored me, interrupted repeatedly, and blamed my pain on ā€œlaziness.ā€ She dismissed the fact that my wisdom tooth is growing sideways and overcrowding my other teeth, which has caused significant pain and damage. She didn’t address my other concerns, like the pressure on my teeth, the chipped enamel, or cavities, and instead made condescending comments about flossing and salt rinses - things I already do. The entire visit felt pointless. I was told to wait six months for someone ā€œtrainedā€ to help me or go private if I wanted quicker care. I was also advised to see my GP if the pain worsens, instead of relying on the hospital for antibiotics or other assistance. After spending $40 and enduring hours of discomfort and dismissal, I left feeling defeated and like my time and money had been wasted. The night nurse I spoke with before going in was far more professional and compassionate than anyone I dealt with in person. It’s so frustrating to deal with this level of care when all I want is proper treatment for a genuine medical issue that is severely affecting my health and well-being. I felt like crying when I got home because the entire experience left me feeling so dehumanised.
