Stryder ReviewPros: Free Coffee, Nice Office, Friendly Staff/Dispatch. Cons: 1. Don’t trust them if they say “Year Round Consistent Work”. Right now owner operators are suffering and some of them contemplating leaving them. 2. Their rate per mile looks good on paper but with Diesel cost, Insurance premiums, you’ll pretty much make driver pay. 3. They don’t offer any discounts on maintenance or tires, etc. or any other perks to owner operators like other companies of their size do normally. You only get fuel discount which is around 10cents a litre in Canada I believe and capped at $4/gallon in states. 4. Expect to burn 8000-10,000 litres of diesel if you’re running BC-AB lanes cause you normally run loads weighing more than 50,000 lbs(beverages primarily). If you run I-5 US lane, loads are light(empty cans) but your revenue maxes at around $18,000 if you are lucky and get 5 consistent trips, which puts you in a really tight spot, Average fuel consumption for owner operators running US lane is around 6000 litres. You do the math! 5. No more parking for owner operators on-site, and you have to find your own parking somewhere else so expect to pay $300-$500 per month extra. **** Plus Waste your time commuting to their yard everyday from truck parking, expect to burn 20-30 litres of diesel even before you start to get paid**** 6. From what I have seen, they are always hiring even though they don’t have work to keep owner operators busy. ***I guess their strategy is to keep mass hiring like big tech companies do, so with enough supply of drivers, you can keep the rates down**** 7. If you plan to join them as owner operators for BC-AB lane, calculate your revenue based on 6-8 trips per month. Make sure you ask for every single detail prior to hiring, like ask for exact insurance rates, diesel prices, electronic logging device, decals. Make sure you know your numbers before you join, otherwise amount of work Ask them “Will they guarantee consistent work?” At the end of the day, Daniel Saam is doing a great job for himself and the investors, owner operators are just a number for them.
