Customer experiences
I enjoyed my tour of the village and, especially, the windmill. The village is a quiet place on a Monday in October, but it provided the opportunity to see how the gardeners prepare tulip beds for next year's festival. Also, the windmill tour, which included more than the windmill, was fascinating. The experience is definitely worth your time if you are in the area.
Had a wonderful time at the historic village and mill. The 20$ admission fee is totally worth it! Got a guided tour of the mill, climbed up and saw the miller start and stop the mill and heard a wonderful and thorough explanation of how the mill works and the history of the Dutch heritage in Pella. The historic building are self guided and provide a great learning experience. Got to learn about the history, architecture and culture of the Dutch settelers in town in a beautiful curated museum and exhibits, as well as see the boyhood home of Waytt Earp and learn about his life. Carve out a few hours in order to truly enjoy the historical village. We had a wonderful time!
We drove through Pella on the Sunday after Tulip time. It was still amazing. Surprisingly, we easily found parking and I got out and walked around the main square in the center of town. Gorgeous flowers were still blooming all over 😍 I didn't get to participate in any of the events of course but we will try to make it next year- there were still a lot of people on Sunday but it was very manageable. Most things were very close together and it was pretty dang easy to walk from flower patch to flower patch! We only made it to the city center though. It was amazing! Truly beautiful!
The historical village is nestled behind a huge windmill. We were too late to join a guided tour but you can walk the grounds independently. There is a broad assortment of displays from fully decked out rooms to regional clothing. The gift shop has a ton of gorgeous products too.
Pella Historical Village & Vermeer Windmill is a tourist attraction.
