Derek came and gave us an estimate that was fair. Once we approved the estimate and Derek started on our projects he showed up on time and worked hard to ensure we were happy with the work. He gave us great feedback back on what options we should consider and why we should consider them. Best compliment I can give is we will use Derek in the future with our next projects.

We have hired Derek 5 times so far and have been extremely pleased and impressed with his knowledge, expertise, competence, and efficiency! Derek knows what he is doing and does it without wasting any time. Normally i would gripe about the cost (Derek is expensive) but he is well worth the cost! Better to pay reasonably more for high-quality work well done than pay less for poor quality work that ends up needing more work to fix properly. Project 1: Replace old flimsy handmade latch-and-padlock garage entrance door after 4 break-ins and 4 failed attempts by us to improve its security. He knew exactly how to enlarge the opening and install a new door with reinforced frame and deadbolt system. Project 2: Replace an old deteriorating roof structure overtop of a patio area outside our back door. He not only replaced it but substantially improved it in terms of sturdiness and esthetics. Project 3: Installed a platform and framing to support an in-window air conditioner we had bought, for less than half the cost that Best Buy had quoted! Project 4: Built and installed a new gate and repaired fencing near our garage after street people had destroyed the previous aluminum gate latching mechanism and had broken through the fence 12 times even after we had repaired it each time. He custom-built a new gate out of treated wood 6 feet tall (previous gate was only 3 feet tall) and added heavy-duty framing and latch mechanisms. He repaired the destroyed part of the wire-mesh fence and reinforced it. Project 5: Replaced 7 old lighting fixtures in our house with modern LED lighting fixtures, and repaired drywall in the basement ceiling that plumbers had wrecked while replacing an old leaky copper drainpipe. Work in the basement utility room included moving a light and adding new switches. He found some old amateur not-up-to-code junction box wiring above our kitchen light and fully informed and advised us that we needed to hire an electrician to assess and fix that since he is not a certified electrician and did not have the electrical expertise to ensure that that work was done in accordance with modern fire and electrical codes. So he knows his limits, and he referred us to an electrician he trusts.
