Our stay at the Red Sands was a pleasant rest stop on an adventure to the nearby national park. Although the building did not have much of a streetside appeal, the interior had a contemporaneous look. Inside, the hotel was one of the cleanest hotels that we have ever stayed in, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The room was large and comfortable; however, the lighting was rather dim. While the bath was certainly functional, it seemed to have been refitted a bit poorly in that the flooring creaked whenever I moved in the shower. Considering the quality of the of the attached eatery, this was a very convenient stopover.
On my way to Capital Reef and booked a one night stay here in the Cathedral wing (the newer updated rooms) and was very happy from the moment I stepped into the room. Smelled like I was entering an expensive spa. A very spacious room with a great picture window that looked out the back toward farmland, horses, cows, etc. Also a walk-out to a small patio in the back. So, the room was great. Also loved the pool/hot tub and the in house restaurant. Really great. I also appreciated the front desk allowing me to use the pool at 7am when they normally don't open it until 9am. Allowed me to get on the road much earlier after my swim. Definitely would stay here again!
I stayed in one of the large king rooms with sleeper sofa in the new wing and it was really nice. Great built in benches for luggage and comfortable bed. Large refrigerator (not full size). The room had a walk in shower which was nice (vs. bathtub shower) but the shower had two built in benches so it made the actual shower space rather small. The vanity was also very small but had decent storage space below. A couple traveling with me had a queen room in the other part of the hotel and it had a bathtub/shower combo. I asked for a quiet location and stayed in 222B which was great at first as it was at the end of a hall near the yoga room on the 2nd floor, but starting around 10pm, vehicles revving their motors in the parking lot just around the corner of my room kept me awake for a long time. I heard vehicles again early in the morning.
