We used Howe Chartered Surveyors twice this year for surveys on a property we were considering buying. The first survey was in May, and after noticing the cracks had grown significantly, we commissioned a report from a structural engineer in September — also with Howe. Despite the visible increase in cracking, the second report made no mention of any change or deterioration since the first survey. It simply stated that the cracks “appear superficial but warrant monitoring for change.” Out of concern, we sought a completely independent structural engineer’s opinion, who confirmed there were major structural red flags. Our mortgage lender also refused to lend against the property due to its condition. We raised our concerns and complaints with Howe Chartered Surveyors, but their response simply repeating that the cracks were “not considered structurally significant at this stage.” They have continued to pursue payment for the second report, despite its lack of acknowledgement of the obvious deterioration between the two surveys. I would urge anyone considering using Howe Chartered Surveyors to be cautious and, if there are any potential structural issues, get other structural engineer opinions before relying on their reports.

Excellent service. Great communication from Caroline Vowles and Richard Palmer. They carried out an agreed Party Wall survey very swiftly so that our build kept to schedule. All work was carried out clearly and professionally. I really appreciate the urgency with which they worked. Howe offer a price match too - which is a great bonus given the huge deviation in quotes from differing companies.
