Amazing location and lovely restaurant. We heard some good reviews and always wanted to go there(some were mixed, but we wanted to find out for ourselves). The food was well presented, but flavours were very mediocre for the price. We tried the whelks and the cockles which we might as well have bought from the fish market, lacked creativity and seasoning. The monk fish was under seasoned and did not taste as fresh as expected. The pork was a bit dry and the Mignonette oysters flavours really didn't work (oysters lovely, but flavour horrendous). The best meal was the Thai Green Curry mussels and will come back just for this dish, packed with flavour and what we expected all the dishes should be like. The service was ok, but did not like the fact that service charge was already included without waiter pointing out to us. I have to add a caveat to the review: since this is one of the pricier/classier restaurants in the area, I am a bit more strict with the review and for the price I expected better. The setting is truly amazing and from various people I heard they also had a hit and miss in the past, so this might just have been an off day. I was expecting a bit more imagination and flavour.
Busy Saturday lunch with 6 plus a young baby, lots of space, very accommodating. Service was exceptional; wines being topped up, efficient staff, knew the menu well and made recommendations - good was pure class. Cannot wait to bring more friends down.
We love this restaurant and have been many times before. We went for our anniversary last night and it was once again superb. The location is spectacular, and the food was exquisite. Staff were friendly and helpful as usual. There really is nothing not to like about this restaurant. Thank you for making our special evening so perfect.
Having been here on several occasions beforehand and being really nice decided to come down on a lovely sunny day. Bar area sitting outside service was slow but was not to worried as the sun was shining. We went down for our booking in the restaurant, The starters took ages to come (35 minutes) when they finally arrived the scallops was tiny and only 3 for £15. The waiter then realised we had no cutlery and took about 5 minutes to bring us a knife and fork (no napkins). The table was not laid when we arrived. We waited for mains well after 45 minutes they hadn't arrived and we had other arrangements so had to leave. We was invited to come back and try again (BIG MISTAKE) We booked got seated and ordered, well nearly a hour later no food! And the the waitress asking us what did we order! I asked her if she had forgotten to put our order through and she admitted it. Well we are now very hungry and bored. The manager was not very helpful I said, I would be writing a review and he said 'well we deserve it' and not really bothered about our complaint and just shrugged it off! It's such a shame have had many lovely meals and times there and these last two occasions have really been awful. Having been in the hospitality industry this in no way forward for a business to survive. They really need to up their game. Do I recommend this restaurant no! Lots of lovely family run restaurants nearby. I hope they sort the problems out so I can return one day and give them a positive review as I used to really enjoy coming to Rocksalt.
