Sam the Concrete Man was recommended by a neighbor who'd had a backyard patio poured a few years back. I liked his patio, and my neighbor said the crew was great to work with, and they took special pains to get a good result around an existing set of stairs. I had Vince come out and give me an estimate, and then I hit him with a ton of "what if?" and "how about?" questions for a week or two after. He told me that we could work with their team lead, Ishmeal, to iron out the details I was interested in, and that I'd have a chance to inspect all forms before the pour was done. After making a few final selections (I wanted a tint color, and the stairs were complicated) and preparing the site, they got to work. Ish and his crew were top notch. Example: when Ish planned the front sidewalk, he noticed a way to improve the water runoff, by changing the grade. This involved removing two sidewalk slabs that were not in the original scope of work, which added tear-out effort and required more concrete - but Vince told me there wouldn't be an upcharge for that. At the same time, we did a backyard patio that was hard to access (due to my hilly yard). The crew found a solution to getting their materials down to the site, building up a terrace in my hill with rocks and fill dirt that I was overjoyed to have. The old front walkway was a hodgepodge of materials installed by previous owners and was in disrepair. The new concrete is clean, wall-to-wall, and has better drainage and vastly better aesthetics. I can emphatically recommend Vince and the crew he brought (led by Ishmeal) to do concrete work. I believe the price was fair; I may have found a cheaper crew but I think it highly unlikely that I'd find a better crew (with a reputable firm that I trust to stand by their guarantee). Five stars for sure. PS. In the "before" photo you see a chipmunk trap - to catch the pests living in the weird cracks and crannies in the old walkway. Problem solved now!
