Customer experiences
We were excited when Scaddabush opened in Barrie, having been loyal customers of their Front Street location in Toronto for many years. We visited during opening week and really enjoyed our experience, which made us eager to return. On our recent visit, we had an exceptional meal from start to finish. In particular, our server, Mandy, was a fantastic ambassador for the restaurant—warm, personable, and genuinely attentive. She did far more than simply take our order and serve our food; she helped turn our evening into a truly memorable experience.
Came for my birthday and made reservations for 4:45pm on a Tuesday. At first there weren’t many people in the restaurant but it quickly filled up. We all enjoyed our food and drinks. The price of the dishes are fairly steep, especially the ravioli being $27.76 but only comes with 8/9 pieces of ravioli (which wasn’t enough to be filling). I would think with a restaurant like this they would offer bread for the table or something. It is a bit of a challenge to get to the bathrooms depending on where you’re seated. The tables span across the entire length of the restaurant so if you want to go to the restroom you might have to take a long route to get around everything or you have to weave between tables which disrupts other people’s meals. Our waitress was Brooke T, she was attentive and friendly. She rounded on us to make sure we had everything we needed and to ensure we enjoyed our dinner. She brought over a little birthday dessert which we all got to enjoy!
2.5/5 ⭐️ Went to Scaddabush Barrie for dinner on a busy Saturday night with a group of four. 📸 What we ordered: Appetizers • Avocado bruschetta 🥑 • Polenta fries Mains • Mushroom and truffle gnocchi 🍄🟫 • Rigatoni bolognese • Steak & shrimp special 🥩🍤 We were seated in the far back right area — almost like a solarium — and it was extremely dark. I love moody, intimate lighting, but this was next level… we literally had to use our phone flashlights to read the menu like a bunch of geriatrics 👵🏼👴🏼😣 Not the vibe. Our server was sweet, but not very attentive — water refills were lacking and check-ins were minimal. Appetizers and drinks came out in a reasonable time, but our mains took over an hour. No exaggeration. I understand it was busy during the holiday season, but waiting that long for a main course is unacceptable. Food-wise: The avocado bruschetta was tasty // Polenta fries were good, but there wasn’t nearly enough sauce // The mains were all just okay // The gnocchi was decent but pretty bland // My steak and shrimp was honestly disappointing — the sauce was overwhelmingly salty, and because I couldn’t see anything, I kept biting into fat. I eventually gave up and packed it to take home 😒😒😒 I’ve heard great things about the Barrie Scaddabush location, which makes this experience even more disappointing. I’m open to giving it another shot — one visit doesn’t define a restaurant — but for a first time, this was a letdown. Would I come back? Maybe. Would I recommend based on this visit? Not really.
We aren’t huge on ordering pasta when we go out to eat but we decided to try this spot because they make it from scratch day of. They also make their sauces day of and mozzarella balls in person per order. The place was busy but service was good and food was worth the wait. I wish I had known the Bomba style Mozzarella ball had the same toppings as the Chicken+Shrimp pasta dish. But everything was cooked to perfection and delicious. We tried the Chicken+Shrimp Entree and Chicken Parm Entree. The atmosphere was neat and it was cool being able to see the cooks in the kitchen.
