Warning About Shopify Payments Since July, Shopify has been holding 586,20€ of our nonprofit organization’s funds without resolution. Here’s the story: Allowed Use of Shopify Payments: Shopify allowed us to use Shopify Payments, which we did, receiving some payments. Document Request AFTER Payments: Only after we received payments did they request legal documents. It’s confusing (and concerning) that they enabled this feature before confirming eligibility. Incorrect Document Demands: They’re asking for an official commercial registration, but we’re a nonprofit in Portugal, where nonprofits don’t have commercial registrations. We provided all legally required documents, yet nothing has happened. Customer Support Nightmare: I’ve contacted Shopify Support repeatedly, and they are either unhelpful or just tell me “it’s with another team.” It’s been over 3 months, and still, Shopify is holding our funds with no solution in sight. If you’re considering Shopify, please think twice. Nonprofits, especially, beware—this has been a frustrating and unresolved experience. Our advice: steer clear if you value reliable support and transparency.
Basically a total scam. They side with fraudulent thieves and protect them and their credit information at the expense of their customers. You are basically aiding and embedding criminals at our expense...keep up the excellent work adding apps and shiny objects...while neglecting the interest of your customers.
As a consumer, Shopify is a horrible platform to deal with. Every time I've been scammed online it's been from the Shopify platform. Reaching out to support with Shopify you get no answer. Trying to leave a review on the stores themselves, you can't until you confirm receipt of an order you don't receive. Which would turn void the ability to get a charge back through the credit card company. 3 stores over the holidays, 3 scams. Spent hours trying to chase down these orders, finally issued a charge back and dealing a few more hours with that. I do not recommend buying from Shopify stores.
