Customer experiences
Sorry, I got sick from having padthai here! A decent looking place. Quite fresh looking actually. It’s spacious and nice. So we hope the food and service were decent also. Sadly it was not the case. Our padthai was a watered down version with super sweet sauce and just plain with noodle, crushed peanut and some tiny bit of beansprouts. No sign of egg, tofu and veggies. If you want those included, you gotta pay extra. What kind of padthai is that? We have had padthai in countless places, both stateside and overseas, Thailand included and have not seen a padthai like this one. My son complained he had stomachache 10 minutes into having his padthai. I thought he was just making an excuse so he could be done with his dinner and dive into the milktea. Yet Milk tea was a failure, my son barely touched it. For desert, our sticky rice mango had a big piece of plastic in it. (And the mango was super sour.) We notified the waitress and she was like ‘sorry about that’. And took the plastic piece away. That was the end of the conversation. No further action or apology happened. Service was very slow and inattentive. We had to keep looking for our waitress. Or went looking for them coz they were not around or not waiting their table. I thought ok we had a bad experience. Then when i got home, the diarrhea came. My daughter also complained her tummy hurt. You gotta seriously look into your recipe, hygiene and service again. Thank you!
I had high hopes for Silk Elephant, but unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. Ordered calamari, dynamite shrimp, and yellow curry fried rice. The calamari was just okay, but the dynamite shrimp was not what I expected. To make things worse, the waitress had no idea how the dishes were made and casually mentioned that the food arrives in packaged form and is just heated before serving. That was shocking to hear and explained the poor quality. When you’re dining out, you expect freshly prepared food, not something that tastes like it came straight from a frozen bag. Overall, a terrible experience, both in terms of food and service. Definitely not visiting again.
I have long looked for a wonderful Thai cuisine place in Des Moines Metro that I felt comfortable to dine in and the food was wonderful. I went clear across town but found it in the Silk Elephant. We started we vegetable samosas, one of my favorite appetizers and often had to find. Haven eaten homemade ones, I can say these were pretty spot on. I was impressed. My pad Thai may seem bland in the pics but that is due to allergies. It was however, very tasty. My husband got the lemon chicken and I have to say I was very impressed with the batter on the balls. My Thai tea was also on point and my husband, never having tried one, loved it. Bathrooms were clean but they had only opened an hour prior. Parking was free street parking. But there are tons of shops near by so you could make an evening of it. I would highly recommend and will be returning. Lucky I don't live closer or I'd be broke!
I tried their fried rice with shrimp. It was wonderful! Big portion, well-cooked shrimps and rice came in good texture. The lemonades were also tasty but they were too sweet. If I knew, I would have asked for less syrup/sweetness. We also ordered avocado with rice wrap. It was so fresh. I highly recommend it
Silk Elephant is a thai restaurant.
