We met at this historic hotel to celebrate a friends 80th birthday and had a really good stay. The hotel has parking out the back and so we entered through the original courtyard and were greeted by the very friendly and efficient receptionist. The hotel itself is quirky in the sense that it is a 17th century building that has expanded over the centuries and the corridors are maze like that there are good directions. Our room was comfortable and well provisioned and warm in spite of our state being on one of the coldest nights of the year. The restaurant is modern and very comfortable, service is exceptional with friendly and professional staff and the menu has good options. Our food win served was very well prepared, attractive looking and tasted excellent. All in all we had an excellent stay which puts the shine on our friend’s birthday!

Very friendly place and attentive service. Truly cannot stress enough the kindness of the waiting and reception staff. The building and rooms could do with a bit of upkeep but they very much convey that you are in Oxfordshire. The food is perfectly decent, but no highlights which would make the dining experience memorable. Often possible to find a good deal if you’re coming as a group or a family.

Decided to book this hotel as it had lovely reviews and showed some lovely rooms. Unfortunately our room wasn't quite as nice. It was fairly small and dark, the lighting was poor and the heating was a unit on the wall above the bed which was fairly noisy, it also hadn't been on when we arrived so it was freezing in the room. There wasn't a mirror on the wall, just one on the unit which plugged in, so it was a struggle to see in it to dry my hair, there was also a small one above the sink. I had to look in a mirror on the corridor to see if I looked ok on the way out. There was a wardrobe which was spacious and a long shelf with half of it taken with the tea tray and then the mirror so I struggled to put my things anywhere as I didn't have a bedside cabinet, there was only one at the other side of the bed. Most of my things were on the floor beside the bed. The bathroom was nice and spacious and it was a freestanding bath with a shower over which was good. We didn't expect luxury given that it is an old hotel but our room in particular needed some tlc and a bit more thought with regard to drawers/shelf and mirror. We ate in the restaurant which was lovely and the food was excellent as was breakfast and I thought all the staff were really friendly, helpful and nice. It was also in a good location to look round the town and parking was at back of the hotel although it was busy on arrival as it was lunchtime so we had to wait a while to get a space. We had a good time anyway and would consider visiting again. Just a point to note that there are a lot of stairs and corridors so maybe not good if you have mobility issues.
